Never said that

The point of VR isn't to replace the current format of video games, it's to give a new way to experience them.
>>
>>336458141
There is a program called Vorpx that converts games with Stereo3d into VR for 60 bucks, as well as a new program called Vireio Perception 4 that says it can do that as well as room scale for free
>>
>>336457978
If you just wanted to play already existing games in VR you could have gotten a much cheaper HMD. The only good reason to get a Vive is roomscale VR, which only has trash games and tech demos right now.

Nvidia is working on something that let's you play all 3d Vision games on a big 3d screen in VR though

The word for Vorpx is exceedingly positive though

>>
>>336458467
I think OR is shit too desu. No one asked for headphones or a bundled controller that drives the cost up. And I'm not even gonna talk about the Facebook shit.
From a software standpoint the OSVR platform makes the most sense to me. Their own HMD is more of a devkit right now though. At least it's cheap and doesn't have additional useless stuff.
>>
>>336457986
>space pirate simulator though.

Why does this even exist with games like elite dangerous and star citizen being priced nearly the same and having so much more going for them

Get a joystick and steering wheel for space and flight and car games, those motion controls are the gimmick, not the VR headset

>>
>>336458675

And that's not immersive without the head-tracking
>>
>>336459038
Not him, but I have no idea what you're trying to say here.
What he was saying is that he thinks the Vive doesn't have much going for it compared to Rift other than the passthrough camera.
Although I think he's either discounting the motion controls there, or failing to factor in the price of Touch.
>>
>>336458774

>>336458910
It's an open standard for VR. The last thing we need is fragmentation of the VR market, so an open standard is a good thing.
It's also supported by quite a few companies, not just Razer.

2 generations down the line I might just pick up a PC HMD if they make usable Zbrush VR more or something. Their current vive brush thing is such a joke
>>

>MFW

But in all seriousness am I wasting $800 if I just want to get one of these to play Doom?
>>

Although Carmack is working on markerless inside-out tracking for the GearVR right now.
>>
>>336459282

I think the Rift's headphones are a plus. Seems like a hassle to have to wear a set of them over the HMD. Plus I hear they're pretty good actually.
>>
>>336459474
But I want to get inside Doom and really feel like Guts. I don't think increasing the size of my monitor will cut it at this point.
>>
>>336459714
Then youd also need someone to make the mod that lets you get inside Doom and feel like Guts.
In the very least, the headsets arent going to get more expensive. As soon as some games or mods come in that do appeal to you, then you can pick one up.
>>
>>336459714
desu odds are you're going to feel like your guts want some fresh air

This is why i really want to get VorpX, i picked up a simple VR game called FATED, and it gave me motion sickness and it was really slow paced. I want to start replaying games i already played in order to build up an immunity to VR motion sickness.
There are a pair of F-Zero like VR games though, one of them especially caught my eye because it was a tunnel run game and it supported nonVR play and every single review said not to play it in VR.

But not without its problems, I hate the god damn strap system on the HMD. I cannot for the life of me get it not to droop when I look down. And the cable keeps fucking tangling every now and then if I forget to unwind and turn in the opposite direction every now and then.

The tracking system is superb It is the most important aspect along side comfort which was meh, PSVR would probably do better on that front.

I was worried the resolution would suck absolute balls, but it was tolerable, not where it needs to be but tolerable.
>>
>>336462403

Hover Junkers became my go to game as well. I have about 26 hours in it so far. Can't wait for them to add the uzi and flare gun. Although the revolver and fishing for headshots will probably always be the most meta.
>>
>>336462696
As much as I love mine, I have to agree.
It is not worth the obscene amount of money you'd have to pay for it at the moment unless you are extremely excited about the tech.

Perhaps in the near future when the price of the hardware drops both in terms of lower end capable PCs and cheaper HMDs.

Now that I have seen it for myself I really believe VR and AR will be here to stay.
>>
>>336461671
Haven't had any motion sickness so far thankfully.
I get easily motion sick reading text in a car or deep water fishing on a small boat, spent half the fishing trip barfing.

Only played the lab and audioshield so far, I have several titles and a whole heap of demos which I haven't tried yet, will play with it some more tomorrow, for now I gotta hit the sack.
>>
>>336459452
I agree with that point, throwing on and off my fidelio X2s every time I want to get into VR can become a nuissance if done frequently.

But it isn't that bad for me I've grown used to the procedure. Chaperone system helps a lot in that regard I just unplug the headphones and place them on the table, can see them outlined easily when I want to put them back on and I have a short 3.5mm which I can easily find when reaching behind my back to plug them in which is the fiddliest part.

Would take that any day to get significantly better sound quality than integrated or cheap ear buds.

If it becomes tiring for long play sessions then I will reconsider but so far so good.
