Sharp Longsword, though if you go for a quality build and also bump STR to 40 you'll get more out of the weapon with a Refined Infusion.
>>
>>336444124
So the wolf ring can be in for lore
>>
>>336444290
How much does it affect the scaling?
>>
>>336444579
enough that it's always an improvement once your dex is over 30 (unless your strength is over 15 in which case Refined is probably better)

pretty much, if it is possible to infuse a weapon then it is always better to infuse it with something. There's no advantage to the normal path
>>

>>
>>336443560
Sharp Exile Greatsword.

With 24 str (min needed to wield 1 handed), 40 dex, it has 545 AR at +10.
Only downside is that it weighs a shit ton
>>
>>336444676
>There's no advantage to the normal path
unless you want to infuse with raw above a certain point
>>
>>336444579
> slightly lowers base damage
> lowers STR scaling
> hugely boosts DEX scaling

If you've got 40 Dex and not much STR it's the best infusion for a weapon, if you've got a bit over 20 STR though Refined usually comes out on top.

40/40 Refined [Your favourite weapon] is the best build in the game.
>>
>>336444124
People claim it still affects super armor and rolling and potentially other stuff.
There is one particual application of poise that is not in game, but it hasn't been proven that it has no effect.

Of course whatever effect it does have is pretty minuscule.
>>
>>336444783
You can infuse anything with anything (except twinkling and boss weapons), and changing an infusion keeps its upgrade level, so there's no downside whatsoever.

Making something Raw at the start of the game when you have low stats, and then making it Heavy/Sharp/Refined once you've gotten your STR/DEX up to a level where it is better than Raw is the optimal way to do damage. The game gives you so many Raw gems there's no reason not to do this.
>>
>>336444861
It has been proven, it turns out the stuff affecting stagger recovery and roll-whatever was equip load. Poise does absolutely nothing.
>>
Is there a place that can help me learn to make builds? I suck with the knowledge in this and get lost with everything
>>
I upgraded Ricard's Rapier to +10, what should I infuse it with?

I haven't respec'd yet, so I can definitely do it. Right now I'm on a quality build, but I'd like to use this weapon for now.
>>
>>336445187
>I'm on a quality build
>what should I infuse it with?
You don't even know where the term "quality build" comes from, yet you keep using it.
>>
How much vitality's a good rule of thumb?
>>
>>336445319
No, I'm saying that right now, I'm using a quality build, and have used weapons fit for that build.

I want to infuse it with something that will bring out it's full potential, and am willing to respec to do it. But by all means, keep the autist act going.
>>
>>336445187
refined, or possibly bleed

I haven't tried it but presumably the rapid fire attack should build up a lot of bleed from all the hits
>>
>>336445014
I wish I had taken notice of this. I went with old school way and avoided raw early on. The system looked like it was from DeS/DaS rather than DaS2 so I assumed you couldn't change the weapon path you chose.

Still wish there were more refined gems available. For a lot of weapons quality gets really good really fast, something like 15/15 which you might go for simply for some stat requirements.
>>
>>336445412
Enough for your fashion.

Honestly armor doesn't do a lot for pvp this time, but you HAVE to fill every slot or you recieve extra damage.
>>
>>336445412
between 10 and 15. Light metal armor like Knights Armor is useful, but the heavier stuff gives no real benefit.

Been considering this

Also, is there any real benefit to double downing on a status effect for a weapon? Like Bleed Warden Blades or Poison Rotten Curve Sword? What about if you cross them up, and infuse poison to a bleed weapon? Effective, or waste of time?
>>
>>336445785
Yes, refined infusion is better for most weapons than heavy/sharp, except the heaviest ones.
>>
>>336445835
>Also, is there any real benefit to double downing on a status effect for a weapon?
No, absolutely not. The bonus aux effect you get is pathetically low and it prevents the weapon from being enchanted.
Infuse with pure physical gems for max damage, and then apply bleed/poison resins to double the aux effect efficiency.
>>
>>336445785
If your opposing stat is over 15, go refined because it gives the biggest benefit.

Otherwise, if you're going 40/10 or some shit, stick with whatever infusion boosts your build (heavy/sharp).
>>
>>336445835
poison is completely fucking worthless because the damage is tiny

Bleed effect is great, but bleed infusion is bad because you can't use Carthus Rouge on a weapon with bleed infusion. Also, bleed infusion just increases bleed damage, it doesn't make bleed build up faster. It's generally a crap infusion.

If a weapon has innate bleed, it's better to make it a Hollow weapon, because bleed buildup is based on your Luck stat, and hollow weapons increase your luck stat.

>>
>>336446241
Bleed still has some value since the burst damage from the buildup can be dangerous.

Poison is worthless since it's not toxic, which even then still isn't as dangerous as I remember it being in Dark Souls 1.

I felt the same way. Same for toxic, why can't players use toxic at all? Why is there an item for curing frost buildup when only a tiny amount of things use frost?

Then again, we're talking about a game where three rings are dedicated to increasing poise and a shield has a special effect of increasing poise but poise does literally nothing at all

start putting all of your level ups into Luck, get it Hollow as soon as possible but until then Refined is fine.

Use Carthus Rouge if you ever fight a strong enemy (you get 5 per level so be careful) and spam the spin weapon art. The full spin should proc bleed, maybe even a couple times.
>>
>>336446541
Go quality or go gimmick, son.
The damage difference is too great.
>>
>>336446584
Poise is currently disabled in DS3. Hyper armour is the only stagger resist, unless you count two-hits-then-you-can-roll.

I'm going to assume it applies to this thread but I've decided to restart Dark Souls 1 after only playing a bit of it years ago.

Dex is top tier.

tell your brother to put on all of his heaviest gear with the best poise and see if he can attack through a hit from literally any enemy while swinging a longsword. Maybe a hollow or dog outside Firelink.

There is a form of poise; if a heavy weapon like a greatclub or greatsword is swung, then you can take a few hits without staggering, but this is completely unrelated to armor, you can do it naked.

The stat on your stat screen, "poise", does literally nothing at all. No stagger mechanic exists anywhere in the game that's different between a guy in full havels or a guy who's buck ass naked. All armor does in DS3 is reduce damage

I remember getting the estoc almost immediately at the beginning of the game and had no idea if it was good or not. Is it still considered good for PvE? Or just PvP?
>>
>>336446590
Not everyone starts with at least 10 dex or so making it a bit higher requirement for some classes.

With weapons like Dark Sword it doesn't make any sense to go sharp though since the weapon requires 16 STR in the first place. Or maybe it does make sense to go sharp at 16/40, but at 16/18 refined was still better for me.
>>
Recommend me a fun build for ng+ that's not quality or 60int. Oh I also already did dex/fth with lightning and dragonslayer sword spear, it's fun, try it
>>
>>336446787
It's good for PvE, but it absolutely bugs the shit out of everyone in PvP because of its genuinely retarded ghost range. Anyone who's not a complete idiot will be able to parry you, but anyone else (and there are a lot of anyone elses) will just die to your insane range and 999999999999999999 pokes per stamina bar.

>>
>>336444005

Made me uninstall actually. It affects so many things in the game, it's not even funny.

Armor is basically useless.
Vit is a dumpstat.
Trash mobs stunlock you endlessly.
R1 spam is the most efficient pvp strategy.
Heavy weapons are a chore to use.
Etc.
>>
>>336446963
Oh. Yes, Poise is THE factor in Dark Souls 1, full Havel's and you'll never be staggered again.
>>
How good are sharp Drang Hammers for a dex build?
>>
>>336446745
Here's your optimal Dark Souls 3 build guide:
Vigor: Always put this at 30 regardless of what build you are doing
Vit: level this until your preferred fashion statement keeps you below 70% equip load. Never level above 15
Endurance: put any leftover levels here up to 30
Str/Dex/int/faith/luck: If you're weapons scales with it, put it at 40, otherwise leave at the minimum
Luck: Keep at minimum
bam, done
>>
>>336447020
>30 Vigor
You mean 27 for that sweet dead 1,000/1,300.
The scaling also dies after 27.
>>
>>336447004
They're not. Maracas are exclusively quality or strength.
>>
>>336447020
I get confused with gems, scaling etc
>>
>>336445078

I've been tanking hits no problem. I noticed that poise does nothing when you're just standing, but I've never been stunned out of an attack with a UGS.
>>
>>336446748
Generally means some super specialized build meant to do one thing really well. Mostly goofy as fuck, such as poison only or pyro/fisticuffs or some shit.

If you're going with 40 in one stat (Dex or Str), and your second stat hits 15, upgrading your weapon to be Refined will give you WAY more damage. Most people just go with refined because they need 15 (or more) of the second stat to wield their weapon of choice. Only go Heavy (Str) or Sharp (Dex) if your build is 40/14 or lower.

>>336446963
Fuck yes it was. There was a reason Giantdads and Flipping Havels were such problems/fun. Poise out the ass made it so they could literally walk into attacks and still get a swing off.
>>
>>336447020
>Luck: Keep at minimum
You mean level to 40 if you are doing bleed build.

Also, dex and faith at 40 is fucking stupid. Need that shit to 60 if you want any damage from it.
>>
Anyone try the dancer blades? What's a good build for those

If they're bad I'll make a moonlight sword character instead and hope that a Lothric Knight Sword will drop and tide me over until then.
>>
>>336447020
>30
Why 30? Such an arbitrary point to stop at.
>>
>>336447084
GS and UGS attacks have hyper armor

hyper armor is the only form of stagger resist in the game. You are not dealing with poise, it's a separate mechanic.
>>
>>336447084
that's called hyper armor. It has fuck all to do with poise.
>>
>>336447159
dancer blades are horribly bad. They're arguably the worst weapon in the game besides the broken straight sword
>>
>>336443560
Why do you ask?
Are you gonna try a 1-hit bosses run?
If not, why don't you just choose a weapon with a moveset that you like?
I use the rapier, and it's probably just a short Estoc, but I picked it up randomly and fell in love with it.
>>
>>336447174
Diminishing returns.

The difference between 29 and 30 points of vigor is larger than the difference between 30 and 31.

>>
>>336447185
>>336447203

Wasn't poise the thing that kept you from being staggered in DaS? It seems to me that the mechanic has simply been changed. My dex build also didn't get staggered in attacks with the wolf ring on, do dancers swords also have hyper armor?
>>
>>336446743

>The stat on your stat screen, "poise", does literally nothing at all. No stagger mechanic exists anywhere in the game that's different between a guy in full havels or a guy who's buck ass naked. All armor does in DS3 is reduce damage

This is my first Souls game. How in the fuck does a game ship with such a glaring oversight like that? Did previous Souls have retardedly obvious flaws like this? I thought these were supposed to be top tier games
>>
>>336447273
Horrible. The reason is that split damage works differently this time and as a result they're shit.
>>
>>336447273
Shit.

triple damage type fucks them over bad.

Feel free to use them if you like them though. It is not like they are unusable.
>>
>>336447337
Split damage is the same as always.
>>
>>336447273
their scaling is D/D/D/D

even a Chaos Sellsword Twinblades is better since it's E/C/C/C

and your damage is being split 3 ways, which means it's going through damage absorption three times
>>
>>336447321
Yes, it was. But poise hasn't been enabled since the last game. The mechanic has not been changed, hyper armor is confirmed a totally separate thing.

If the weapon class doesn't have "great" in it, it doesn't have hyper armor (excluding greatscythes)
>>
>>336447263
By that logic you should stop at 26. There's no reason to stop at 30 specifically. Is it just because of your autistic need to stop on a multiple of ten?
>>
>>336447302
Anything with a goofy as fuck weapon art or unique attack.

Tokyo drift sword, curved wolf sword, and carthis curved greatsword are a blast to catch people with.

You could also grab a mace and POISEKNIGHT your way to victory, same with using the ceastus (good luck with that), as they both have weapon arts that temporarily give you working poise. No one is really used to doing PvP against actual poise so you'll catch people by surprise.

Not true. The weapon art on warden twinblades for example has hyper armor.
>>
>>336446351
I like infusing poison into weapons that already have bleed. Yeah it doesn't deal all that much damage but I mostly like it just to see how much damage I've done to an opponent. And if the fight draws out long enough, it could add up to an extra R1 or even 2.
>>
>>336447419

I was using dancer armor and a wolf ring and never got staggered out of my L1 combos.
>>
>>336447321
the only effect that Wolf Ring has on the game is using up one of your ring slots. A lot of random attacks have hyper armor, especially pretty much all Weapon Arts have some armor.

>>336447329
It's clear that it was a last minute decision to remove poise. They didn't have time to redesign and redo the art for the status screen or to deal with details like items that increase poise

at least weapon arts that grant poise still work
>>
>>336447517
Like it's been said. Poise from armor or rings doesn't effect staggering, whether the weapon has attacks with hyper armor does.
>>
>>336447517

Poise is absolute in Dark Souls 1 but so are stunlocks. If you don't get staggered you only take damage, but if you do get staggered you can be easily stunlocked in place especially in PvP. Without toggleescape the PvP would be just stunlock rush.
The way it works is pretty simple, weapons like straight swords for example drain 20 poise per 1HR1, and if you have poise of 21 or higher you don't get staggered by that. After 1 second of not taking any hits, poise is instantly refilled.

It's generally recommended to have at least 31 poise for PvP but it mostly depends on what weapon your opponent is using.

>>
>>336448247
>>336448330
it's more that vitality, faith, luck, attunement and intelligence are all dogshit stats outside specific meme builds. quality builds are outright the best at around SL95-120 range because everything else is garbage. at SL80, you can do other builds, like pumping vigor, end and dex and using a chaos blade and do well against quality builds.

quality builds haven't been good in the past because weapon buffs and other stuff has been better. but now magic and weapon buffs are dogshit so quality builds are good
>>
>>336448380
>>336448405
Not highest damage, that's not the problem.
It just flat out gives more damage per level than other paths due to how high it brings the scaling, rendering other builds useless in relation.

It's all right for the weapon to have some downsides, it's powerful as fuck even PvE-wise. You can just restun a lot of enemies and keep infinitely spamming at them with it.

Imagine if Dark Sword had Longsword's moveset for example.
>>

>using the Dark Sword as an example of anything
The Dank Sword is OP as fuck. That's not an issue with quality, it's an issue with unbalanced bullshit weapons and cookie cutter tryhard builds.

Honestly the real problem is >>336448479. In terms of PvP there are like three or four stats that are actually worthwhile and the rest are shit. At least in DaS2 sorcery and hexes made intelligence and faith worth stat investments. In this game sorcery and miracles are garbage, meaning that the only viable PvP builds are quality since the only place that's worth pumping those points into is strength and dexterity.

Quality isn't stronger. Everything else is trash.

From what I've read, Bleed is tied to Luck in this game, making the more viable bleed builds require a weapon with innate bleed, Hollow infusion and 35~40 Luck

But why is a weapon that causes you to build bleed on yourself as well, weaker than weapons that doesn't. From fucked up bad with weapon balance in this game.

>>
>>336449225
The best meta is at 60 anyway because then you get called to defend Aldrich.
>>
>>336448950
It would be okay for how everything else is kinda weak now that players in PvP have HP closer to 1,000 than 2,000 like in DaS1 and DaS2. Nerfing quality would make PvE unnecessarily hard though, it already is on the tougher side.
>>
>>336449164
Of course quality is better than dex/str in almost every circumstance. You are investing twice as many stat points. 30/30 quality is going to ne stronger than 50 str or dex due to how scaling works.

And longswords have always been tippity top tier. Are you going to claim that straight swords aren't fucking ridiculous? They've been that way since Demon's Souls.
>>
>>336449225
End and Vig to 40 and pick two out of the Dex, int, str, fth to bring to 40 and that's basically it.
>>
>>336446317
>Astora GS
>Terrible moveset
Its moveset is the best part. The weapon art if timed properly can punish everybody. Just don't spam it. The roll r1s have 100 bonus damage for some reason and are pretty fast. The roll r2s have good range, perfect for other ugs users. Other than that it has mostly the same zwei moveset. The attack rating is pretty good once you reach higher sl. The stamina usage is the same as any other ugs as far as I know.
>>
>>336447987
Scythes were in such a good balance in DaS1, they had excellent damage and reach but they were easy enough to dodge but had a pretty well varied moveset to balance it out.

Fuck ENB and his "Best DEX weapon" trash. He also overstates how good BSS is, which was actually extremely balanced weapon.
>>
More and more people are parry spamers, I need a good STR weapon that cannot be parried and doesn't require much of a investement in stats.
I've been using the Exile GCS, but it's only good when you have enough FP to meme spin2win and I pretty sure two-handed r1's can be parried
>>
>>336449348
>You are investing twice as many stat points.
No you aren't. Refined gives higher damage at 16/40 than sharp at those same stats, even though refined is supposed to be the best once you really have put enough oomph into both stats instead of just one.
It's okay for a quality build to be better than dex build if you compare builds where you've put 50 points total into quality and 30 points total into dex, but refined already beats out a build that has 30 invested evenly vs 30 put into dex.
It's not "better if you invest more", it's just "better" whether you invest more or not.
>>
>>336449562
Parry timing in pvp seems easier than ever in this game.
>>
>>336449562
Great Club is always fun. It takes 28 str though.
If that's a bit too high you could go Large Club for 22 str and not give up much damage.
>>
>>336449562
honestly i just use tears of denial for hornet memers and mash that r1 button. the chance of them getting a parry is pretty small. maybe don't do a third r1 after you catch them with an r1-r1 combo because that's when they always parry, instead do a r2 after your combos
>>
>>336449702
Unless using a Great weapon class, parry is pretty mediocre.
You can survive at least two parries if someone is using a fast weapon.
Hornet ring changes everything and becomes one shot machine with any fuckhueg weapon
>>
>>336449702
I liked parries in 1 the most. They were harder to whiff out and you really needed to be able to predict an attack for it to work but if you did read one coming very quickly you could punish it with a backstab yet it wasn't easy unless they were just spamming parry in place.
In 2, reactive parries on 1st hit are bit too easy, but so is just delaying your attack slightly and then catching the one trying to parry in a stun.
>>
>>336449562
Here's a trick. If you know they're going to parry, sprint straight at them. As they parry, run around them and backstab them. For most shields you'll have just enough time to get the backstab off. Be aware that it doesn't work on fist parries though, at least as far as I'm aware.

Once you get this technique down it pretty much trivializes parry spammers.
>>
>>336449968
Yea, almost everybody is using caestus to parry spam these days.
>>
>>336449684
No it doesn't. That's not how scaling works.

If you have a weapon that's predominantly a dex weapon, such as a uchigatana, and you infuse it with refined, you're losing scaling on dexterity versus a sharp uchigatana. Refined is only worthwhile if you invest evenly into both.

Also, quality is inherently superior to str or dex due to the fact that scaling hits a softcap at 40. The rate at which you gain AR drops above 40 and then drops severely above 60. So, in that regard, 40/40 is the most effective build when it comes to raw damage but it comes at the price of substantially higher stat investment.
>>
Do they not playtest their games? Every time they release with something so obviously superior to everything else it is baffling how it got through.
>>
>>336450427
That is how you would think it should work, not how it actually works.
>>
>>336450521
No, that is literally how it works.

If you are pure dex with minimal str then sharp is superior to refined. Period. End of story. This is how it works. If you invest significantly more into str than is necessary to wield a weapon then you're building quality and refined is a better choice.
>>

99 KB, 730x156
>>336450427
That's how it's supposed to work, but no. Katanas used to have A/S scaling and were therefore great for dexterity only builds, but when even refined you only get B, having next to no STR scaling actually hurts you because you still need 11STR to even wield the weapon. It's better to go refined even here.

Starting to see the problem? C/C alone gives excellent damage output, it doesn't help that multiple refined weapons go up to B/B.
>>
>>336443560
Chaos Blade if you're weeb enough.
>>
>>336450702
That's not how it works in practice even though that's how it was in past games.
Sharp with 10/20 deals less damage than Refined at 15/15.

Chaos Blade is the only katana to have dex scaling above B but cannot be infused or buffed.
>>
So what's this about hollow weapons and luck? Hollow weaps scale off it or it boosts luck?

By how much and is this shown in game or is it like a hidden mechanic,
>>
>>336451097
Both. Hollow scales off luck and gives up to +5 luck(depending on upgrade level of the weapon) while above 15 hollowing.
>>
>>336451097
If you're over 10 hollowing, then they boost luck depending on their +, at +10 it's 5 extra luck

They also get extra damage from luck

And yes, it's hidden

Basically, they're for people who only want to invest the very bare minimum stats to wield something and don't plan on putting any more.

Deep and Fire are for similar purposes as they also lack any scaling, but they have Dark and Chaos for those who want those elements but also scaling.
