Was MegaMan Battle network any good?
>>
I played it 2 years ago and it was pretty good. I started with 2 though.
>>
>>336425627
The first one sucks dick. The second one is fucking awesome, and has the best story out of the entire series. 3 has the best gameplay, but 2's gameplay is still top notch.
>>
The first suffered from a painfully slow pace and at times the series got a little vague on where to go next, but as a whole the series was pretty fresh and innovative
>>
>>336426132
Playing 1 after finishing 6 was hell.
>>
Would it be possible to just skip 1 and go straight to 2 and 3? I don't have time for mediocre jrpgs these days.
>>
>>336426205
I honestly never botherd to even finish it.
>>
>>336423730
1 aged horribly
2 is great
3 is great
4 has a lot of questionable design decisions
5 is okay
6 gets back up to good territory
>>
>>336426262
You miss nothing.
>>
>>336426262

There's a lot to love about these games until you're spending 30 minutes in meaningless random battles just trying to find something in the Net.

Oh sweet 150 zenny- real worthwhile.
>>
I think it's worth starting with 1 if you're already set on playing through the series. The leap from 1 to 2 is so immense you're practically guaranteed to appreciate the rest of the series way more.
>>
>>336426457
That's why if you use an infinite zenny cheat nothing is lost. You can use that to do less grinding and buy lots of those no-encounter items when you're backtracking in weak areas.
>>
>>336426591
> infinite zenny cheat
caaaaasual
>>
>>336426591
I think his complain is more about getting lost or too many random encounters.

quite good
>>
The thing I'm surprised about is that no indie fag wants to cash in on the huge gameplay $$$ potential for a MMBN-style game using the 3x3 cells and folder.

The gameplay is practically a real-time card game.
>>
>>336426810
Too hard to make for indies.
>>
>>336426810
>real-time

Mobile shitters play static games like Candy Crush and Angry Birds, not anything good.
>>
This franchise had so much potential to be one of the best RPG formats of all time, but then Starforce happened.
>>
>tfw will never have the autism to beat megaman blue moon 6 times ever again

aging sucks
>>
>>336426490

This.

Really, One isnt bad if you arent familiar with the other games, it just aged like milk.
>>
1 was ok but very raw. Great OST and dungeons though.

2 is my personal favorite, I enjoyed the aesthetics, battling, and the postgame content. Gospel is cool and it's my favorite OST in the series.

3 has the most content but personally I don't like it as much as 2. I feel its OST is weaker, and Bubbleman legitimately keeps me from wanting to replay it.

4 is so shit it made me quit this series.
>>
Oh yes, most certainly

>>336426325
I would say the same as this
>>
>>336426886
Not really. I seen a couple of indie developers pull it off some fangames of this franchise, even with primitive game making systems.
>>
>>336423730
2 and 3 are god tier, 6 is demi-god tier and everything else is "Who cares?" tier
>>
>>336426262
Yeah just skip over the first one. It was only intended to get players acustomed to the gameplay and battle mechanics. Which is why the kid gloves come off in the sequels and the difficulty is raised so high.
>>
>>336426810
It's like trying to make a Pokemon clone. No matter how good it is, people will just dismiss it as "that Pokemon clone". MMBN had a battle system that's too unique, and with the battlechips and folders, too specific.

At least with Dragon Warrior-style battles, so many games did the same thing at the same time that it became a staple of JRPGs. MMBN stands alone.

Which is a damn shame because MMBN has objectively one of the best battle systems ever.
>>
>>336426697

The sequels are a HUGE improvement over the first game, so I wouldn't even bother with 1.

Indie darling and video game spokesperson Brianna Wu actually designed a game around MMN called Revolution 60 that's won a wealth of top notch awards for it's technical feats and art design
>>
>>336426810

More like it would be incredibly obvious that it's a Battle Network rip off.
>>

i just looked at a video, the gameplay is so clunky
>>

3 is pretty great, they finally grew into its own thing instead of trying to be Battle Network. Sadly it's the last one
>>
It's pretty good on an emulator so you can fastforward past all the boring dialogue scenes and fetch quests across the net
>>
>>336429196
True. But 1 is outdated mechanically compared to it's sequels 4 is..4 and 5 is only just okay.

>>336429246
Somewhat it's BN with a first person view and fewer titles.
>>
>>336429408
So it's not that 5 is bad it's just weaker than the rest? What was different about 4? I played a few of them probably ten years ago on VBA but no idea which ones.
>>
>>336429408
I thought it was generally agreed upon that 5 was significantly better than 4.
>>
>>336429507
4 is very disjointed because it's made up of stand-alone scenarios that are randomly inserted into the main quest, it also means you have to play the game a total of 3 times to get everything, and during that process a lot of content will be repeated.

It also experimented with a lot of new mechanics like a morality system which weren't quite polished yet.

4 is just weird mostly because in order to get everything gotta beat the game like four times. Even you don't bother shit like dark chip isn't really fun to use all that much(For me at least) and really it's just not that great of a BN game.

>>336429704
It is. But that's not saying much the only BN game worse than 4 is 1.

This is pretty accurate although personally, i love 5.

Also, why didn't we have Roll instead of Meddy? What, having one of Lan's best friends as a team member would ruin the immersion but Higby's shop being far bigger than its exterior doesn't right?

Don't get me wrong, i don't mind children living without their parents or Lan's mom sleeping in the couch, but i just feel like Roll wouldn't have been as forced as it would seem. In the meantime, lemme charge on of Meddy's capsules so that it can detonate tomorrow.

>Pretty much every series except Legends has been run into the ground with near-identical sequels, and a lot of them are even kind of bad, but I still want more.
Well, I'd argue that there is only one objectively crapshoot sequel in the franchise, and that is X7.

Some of the serieses' first game is pretty weak (BN1, SF1, MM1 is arguable and some don't like Z1 all that much). BN4 still has the core battle gameplay working great, even if it doesn't justify the very crappy aspects in other areas of the game. X6 is another game that gets a lot of shit, for some very justifiable reasons, but it's still playable unlike X7.

Mega Man definitely reeks of yearly sequel baggage, but unlike games like CoD they have some of that timeless charm and quirky character designs that keep it fun.

>>
>>336440081
It just aged poorly when compared to the later titles, basically. The jump in quality from 1 to 2 is immense.
>>
>>336439192
The dungeons aren't repetitive at all, each one is different and has its own puzzle or gimmick.

The maps are pretty small. Only BN1 is mazelike in anyway. Plus different jack-in points make getting around easy.

Battles in BN are more rewarding than any other JRPG because they usually last seconds and if you do it fast enough you can great a great chip. Even then there's a Repel-esque Subchip you can just stock up on to avoid random battles starting from BN2.
>>
>>336426994
Lucky you.

I emulated them both simultaneously and went over them again and again just because of the different souls. Actually, they were my first BN games back in highschool.

I didn't care about repeating the story back then. I was there for the gameplay; It blew my mind with the chip mechanics, and it gave me an erection when i really got into ProgAdvances, especially on BN3

I didn't mind at the start. Avoiding shit was fun.
Then things started getting too real when enemies had HP bigger than 180 and you couldn't negotiate battles quickly with a strong chip
>>
The Battle Network series has the best battle system in any RPG by far.

Hell it might be my favorite gameplay system in any video game ever.

New BN game never.
>>
>>336441758
Fuck Capcom. Hell I would take a StarForce 4 even. I ducking love 3 and it is defiitley on par with bn3 in its own right. Sf4 would also be the best time to bring duo back. Still waiting dammit.

I think a clean slate is what the Mega Man franchise needs now. While the franchise can bank a lot on its popularity and name, making another sequel would probably scare off some customers. As much as I hate reboots where they just call the new game what the original was called, they could do something similar and give it a new subtitle. Maybe even give it a whole new continuity to avoid any sequel baggage from the previous titles.

I wouldn't mind if it's a reboot of classic/X or even BN/SF.
>>
>>336444268
No, I'd rather just have a SF4.

I wish Capcom would finally revive Mega Man. MMX8 came out 12 years ago, Battle Network 6 came out 11 years ago. There wasn't a single serious Mega Man title since then (except maybe Star Force series).
>>
>>336444368
Battle Network wasn't Mega Man, it was just shitty yugioh pokemon with Mega Man's name slapped on to sell more copies.
>>
>>336444329
As much as I'd be fine with it, I don't think Capcom would put enough confidence in a sequel of SF selling well enough.
>>
>>336444428
This isn't about what Capcom thinks, it's about what would happen as the plot of a hypothetic SF4.
>>
>>336444516

ElecGuts is pretty great. Hit them with a ZapRing and mash B until the machine gun kicks in.
>>
I think every BN game had a place where'd I'd just get stuck for a week or two with no idea what to do when I first played them. I remember one time I got stuck, the solution was to jack into the doghouse and click on a random tile. Another spot had to do with a cruise ship I think. Then there was trying to solve some riddle when Dexs brother got kidnapped.
>>
I've beaten bn3 5 or 6 times but I've never fought Serenade. I dunno how people get there.
>>
I think the universal hate for MMBN4 is a bit unwarranted. It was my first BN game and I absolutely loved it. It made me fall in love with the series and made me go back and play the previous ones.
It's still the best battle system on GBA, it still has a god tier OST, it's still a really comfy-looking game. And what's wrong with tournaments? I was pretty hyped as a 12-year-old kid.
>>
>>336445793
I guess it depends on when you played it. I enjoyed it because I was also a kid and just loved the series.
>>
>>336445793
>It was my first BN
Play it again. 3 was my first, I was infinitely stoked for 4 and I cleared it 5 times before getting everything

Going back through 4 years later, it's an absolute chore. The story is painful, the tournament scenarios are annoying filler, playing it again I didn't even get all the souls
>>
>>336445793
BN4's shortcomings really come from how you need to beat the game multiple times (and god forbid if you missed a chip on the first or second playthrough) and how one of the advertised features can actually brick your game.

That, and some of the scenarios are really sloggish to play through. It also lacks some polish in some of the cutscenes, but you can pin that on Capcom pushing the game out too fast.
>>
>>336446070
Isn't 4 the one where they changed the style of all the sprites to make them all short and stuff? I didn't like that either, even if the later games kept it.
>>
>>336429253
I just want to bend her over and stick it in.
>>
>>336446185
It was, yeah. It also introduced the soul system, and I'd argue it took until BN6 to make it actually good.

If MMBN7 were, by some miracle, to be made, which Classic Robot Masters would you want to get Navi versions?
>>
>>336445793
3 was my first BN as a kid. I even had a hard time deciding between 2 and 3 when they were all on store shelves.
I fucking loved 3 and bought 2 shortly afterwards and then bought at least one version of every single game in the series afterward when they came out, but even as a kid I felt the dip in quality of 4.
As a kid, yeah, the tournament stuff is definitely hype as fuck, but the rest of the game just doesn't hold up like the others when you go back to it with a more experienced view.
The rest of the series bar the first game has just been so good that 4's quality leads it to be almost universally hated. If it were really just OK like the general perception of 5 seems to be, we wouldn't single it out all the time.
That said, I don't really hate 4 much either.

>>336446001
I never understood what the fuck happened in my files. The very first run through of 4, I got 3 souls while all subsequent new games, completely new games, not the NG+ mechanic, I got only 2.
