I haven't played X but I played blade on the dolphin and I wasn't super impressed. I dropped it the first time I played then gave it another shot. I dropped it again around where dunban comes back. It just feels like a fucking chore to play. It's an mmo with none of the group aspect and the plot is really uninteresting.
I liked the politics that gears had going on, blade feels like a more generic us vs the baddies lets save the world.

It plays much closer to an mmo than it does to gears or any other typical jrpg, auto attacks with cooldowns on top of it. And because it's just cooldowns you don't really have to think too much about what you're doing at the stage of the game I'm at (I understand it likely gets harder) I can just use whatever the second it's off cooldown with no real though.

The sidequests can be a chore, I agree, but the biggest value they offer is the EXP reward. Level matters A LOT early on, when you can't get higher than Agility Up IV gems.
But yeah, the game gets much better after Bionis Leg. It's easily the 2nd worst part of Xenoblade Chronicles, easily on par with the worst parts of X and Gears.

Dunban and everyone after him require a lot of thought on when and where to use moves, especially the character immediately after him. Early game is a slog, I can understand, but the system really fleshes itself out right after Dunban joins, because then you start finding enemies with spikes, and everything starts fitting together better.
Autoattacks are also almost useless as anyone except for 7 and Dunban, arguably. The next 15% of the game is going to surprise you quite a bit, and you'd probably end up loving it, if you like Xenogears that much, when you get to Alcamoth and the area right after it.

It's alright, I had trouble slogging through the Bionis leg chapters as well. But I think that the last half of the story easily outclasses the rest of the series, and is why some people are so salty Xenoblade Chronicles X didn't have as good of a story.
X's story would be vindicated if it did indeed get a sequel, but Chronicles is a really good self contained story, easily rivaling Xenogears. Though the first half pales in comparison to the last half, especially the big plot twist that happens when you're around level 70.

Reign in the director. Remind him, FREQUENTLY, that he is making a video GAME. The frequent cut scenes are fine, but there's a LOT (not counting Disc 2) that are just too long. If MGS hadn't taken the meme, it woulda been Xenogears. In that, cut-up the cut scenes in intelligent ways with actual game play. Same content, more control. Hell, offer control DURING certain cut-scenes. Part of this will also be to better utilize the money spent. Not sure how as I wasn't on the team of course, but they blew through a LOT of money for 1 disc.

Can we talk about how good this game is? X is the first time I've ever actually liked a desert level more than any other level in a game. Oblivia is such a fucking great continent. It's also the most fun to fly around in.
Story and plot aren't that great, but I'm expecting them to end up being good if/when a sequel drops. If the sequel ends up making the plot better, X would be GOAT.

Ending on a cliffhanger is the only major problem with the story. If it does get explained, everything will make sense, but it feels just like Xenogears, where the story feels like it should've been fleshed out more.
And most of the storyline is conveyed through the side missions, especially the affinity missions. World building is X's major strength, while it lacks in plot. To say that X's story is shit is only taking the plot into account. It feels like it ended right on the "rising tension" part of a plot line.
It's fine, considering the 5 "continents" you visit barely make up a 10th of Mira's total size.

OMG I know anon. Read the liner notes for the CT/CC arranged album (they are actually in English and Japanese). Mitsuda talks about his love for the characters and their plight. He says that this album was made to continue their story and their feelings.
It's so touching that after all these years he still holds these characters and these stories (CT, CC, and Gears) in such a special place in his heart, just like us fans do. We are really lucky to be getting new music for these games released so long ago.

It's not just some characters that can disappear forever, it's permanent geographical changes, like in Noctilum, or the water plant in Primordia. Let's not forget the different "recruitable" races that you can go the entire game without knowing about.

Several of the affinities end on cliffhangers like Yelv's who has no closure or are rushed characterization with promise on a premise that is never fulfilled like Murderess who magically just kind of resolves her story. Several aspects of the story are never elaborated on like everyone understanding on another. The leads are un-engaging and have awful charisma that soak up a majority of characterization to -never- do anything with it, while 8 other characters have characterization comparable to or worse than Xenoblade's Sharla; IE 1 or 2 short storylines then nothing. There's even completely inconsistent narrative where people talk like death is real and permanent and then two chapters later talk about reviving people.

Not really in relation to any actual characters, or humans in general who are the central part of the world in which the story is conveyed. Aspects of the world are well done, namely anything detached as far as possible to anything in the storyline. Yes, there are good storylines like Mia and the Defanian Downfall but whatever good is to be had tiptoeing around the fucking awful inconsistent world. Xenoblade X's story as a whole is shit, its just not complete shit.

What the fuck are you talking about? Sharon quite clearly goes through a huge development arc with the murderer she "spares". Over her 3 affinity quests, you can quite clearly see her plot line. Especially the jump from the 2nd to 3rd quest, where she acts according to her better judgement, making sure she doesn't end up like the guy who murdered her parents. Could it have been better? Sure, but it was really good the way it was.
Yelv's quest has closure. It also helps characterize Eleonora, who would otherwise be a pretty inconsequential NPC.
Before calling something shit, you should maybe learn to critically analyze story and characters. You should've learned this shit from Shakespeare. It's completely plausible to make a good character with a great arc without giving them tons of screen time. Sharla is an example of that, where she has several developing moments, however few times she gets to develop. Even though she was mostly used to develop Reyn, her own arcs were pretty good too, especially the Jade Face segment.

It really wasn't good considering it jumps from a interesting hook to a conclusion without a meaningful struggle and absolves major tension between Irina and Murderess off screen apparently, and Yelv's story doesn't really have closure. He's still looking for him. Sharla's example is in relation to relevancy to major story, which besides her boyfriend had no purpose. Reyn was also irrelevant but he at least could serve as moral support during the Shulk's hardships early on. Yes, Sharla has some storyline, but even characters like Cait Sith from FF7 who are all but the most irrelevant fucks has at least one vital singular use in the story. You're also glossing over everything else I mentioned Mr. "Xenoblade X is comparable to shakespeare use critical thinking". How is "death is final no wait everyone can be revived" not inconsistent world building? How is "everyone can understand each other please don't read into this" great world building? These are just two examples I mentioned. There's so much the game glosses over, or never explores meaningful like the Sumarrians, the Ganglion itself, Nopons calling humans hom, or any of the DOZENS of xenoblade references.

There is nothing wrong with being formulaeic. In the end it comes down to execution. You can have whatever sort of fucking retarded shit you want as your main character,gameplay mechanics,setting story and so on and still have a good game so long as you can fit it to your image.
