Winning with the most optimal set up is boring though, many people do not use the most optimum things or follow the "meta" so strictly, preferring instead to experiment and flex the limits of the game. These people, who are already good enough to follow the standard meta fully but forgo it, are often the ones that discover what in the future becomes the new meta. I remember when Torchlight 2 first came out me and my friends co-oped through the whole game on release week. We all played it for the very first time together and chose different classes. Right when we spawned, one friends first instinct was to study our abilities and talents and shit. Everybody else's instinct was to FUCKING GO LETS FUCK SHIT UP FIGURE IT OUT LATER. We only.learned shit on the fly or during inventory management. It was fast paced and fun, since learning was incorporated into progression. This fucking autist though, he always insisted on staying in like one fucki g spot for 15 minutes at a time all throughout the campaign even when we took like half hour breaks to get food and the like. And his autism was so strong that he said "wait up for me guys I have something to do real quick" so we said alright sure whatever.
We started to talk and kinda forgot about moving through the game for a bit. Literally a fucking hour later we remembered we had a game to play, and turned to friend C to find out what the fuck up. It turned out that motherfucker was going back through all of the fucking map to 100% explore every inch of the maps we've been through after we agreed as long as we get the quests and dungeons we're not gonna waste our time. This motherfucker wasted all of our time because he wanted those maps 100% revealed. Not exactly like your situation but still a 'friend C' type thing to do.
