I'm cautiously reserving hype for this as it could very well be another couple years until this even releases. From reading the blog, it sounds like they're very passionate about the project but could get caught up in minor details forever and the project eventually collapses.

Yeah he's basically acknowledging it exists but saying he thinks they're lying about the amount of progress they're making. Then stating that with Mother 3 that his dev team were able to pretend they were making progress when they weren't the same way.
Considering Mother 4 was supposed to launch in Winter 2014 Itoi is probably right even though he was just guessing.

It's also a rip-off in the worst possible way. Mother 3 wasn't even supposed to look like Mother 2/Earthbound since it was supposed to be a 3D game.
Mother 4 is like they're trying to make a "faithful" sequel forgetting that being a 2D game and looking like Earthbound was a compromise, not a choice and for an actual sequel they probably would have tried 3D again.
