Just play it on default gdoom with y axis movement turned of. It's a lot better. Starters pack isn't really good anyways.

BD is fun as hell when you want to unwind, but if you just want to play and explore maps then it quickly becomes a hassle. Standard gzdoom is fine enough for that, slap some weapon wads and map packs and you're set to go.
Now, I'm not saying you shouldn't play BD, and there are several addons you can get to it which adds new weapons and such, just don't expect a lot of compability with other wads outside of map packs.

Is there a way to disable the marine npcs in Brutal Doom? By the time I made it to Downtown I had a small army of them, and the moment I entered Industrial Zone they started obliterating the entire level before I even got a chance to shoot. And I'm playing on one of the next to highest difficulty level.
