The character/story part is actually quite great, it's just that the gameplay is quite clunky and buggy

It's really fun, actually. Would love a sequel that fixed the clunky gameplay.

They're not even terrible, just budget rearing its ugly head, but I like both Game of Thrones RPG and Of Orcs and Men.

This. It was a stellar game, Mass Effect could have learned a few things from it.

DA2 probably had Bioware's best MC to date. Sarcastic Hawke just works, especially in DLC.

massively overlooked game. yeah, it definitely hurt from limited budget and lack of polish, but that fucking story. that's how you make good use of a license for a video game.

I was really close to joining up with Leland and becoming a war economy tycoon. Ended up beating the shit out of him and ditching town with Heck, who was the only handler at that point who liked me.

>tfw Brayko can't be a handler for the final mission
>>
>>336380843
Pretty accurate. Low tier story and characters, awful in every aspect, but you get to bring the Seagal factor:

>>
>>336380903
I loved it anyway
The criticism is way overblown
I don't understand why
I mean I can see the flaws but the hate and vitriol is insane
Inquisition is worse in a ton of ways except graphics and performance
Because inquisition managed to perform about the same while looking much much better
Yet the characters looked worse design-wise

>>
>>336378920
Good things it had
Best companions by a mile and best companion interaction.
A concise story that didn't drag on like DA:I
Making me actually care about these characters and their struggles like hawkes mom being murdered his uncle finding his daughter etc
The rivalry and friendship system is honestly one of the best relationship systems bioware has done.
A great set up for the next game
Pretty good dlc

Things it did badly
Very casualized combat
Backtracking and reused assets out the ass.
Too short for a 60 dollar game even with the dlc
Didn't really tie in well enough with the last game for me

All in all its a flawed but still pretty good game. If they hadn't rushed it to make Mass effect 3 or 2 or whatever they were working on it probably would have been as good as the first one
>>
>>336377321
>>
>>336378920
Other than the enviroments and ending it was better than inquisition. Better companion interaction (shame they ditched friendship/rivalry), sidequests that were integrated into the plot, different Hawke personalities actually making things different (like ruthless let you side with the church fanatics in act 2 against the qunari).

Also only game in the series that you needed to put any thought into when fighting on nightmare difficulty.

It had good world building and really graphic moments that I wish were in games more often.

I did buy it on sale though.
>>
>>336390063
Me too anon. If only they delayed the game another 6 months - year, it would have the polish that the game needed and would have been what everyone wanted. Sadly after that they kept deciding every time they needed to reinvent the wheel. Sonic Secret Rings, Rush, Unleashed, Lost World, Boom. I kind of wish they had made another Lost World game, because with more work it might actually feel like the adventure games.

Been a couple years since I've played Alpha Protocol, but one thing that really rubbed me the wrong way was that whenever you had a choice to execute someone, killing them was always the wrong decision to make. Letting characters live never bit you in the ass later down the line, you always got an immediate benefit.
>>
>Alpha Protocol was meant to be a trilogy like Mass Effect
>Production stopped on sequel because sega pulled out
Absolutely tragic, it's probably the greatest example of a game that had issues, but had massive potential to develop into something amazing

My biggest issue with AP is that the suave personality just does not work

You really need an English accent or whatever for it. I get it's meant to be like James Bond or whatever but it just doesn't work with an American accent, he just sounds like an unfunny asshole trying too hard.

The actual "game" part was shit however. Very little real gameplay, and whenever you were in control, it was really shallow. But everything else in the game is so perfect it doesnt matter
