its so much better when the antagonist has reason to be 'evil' (re: opposed to protag) rather than trying to become god then going mad and wanting to destroy everything for like, no reason.
also I guess themed locations, you don't get mushroom forests, well engineered temple mazes, and void fragment spaces in reality, and those are fun to explore, or be challenged by.
