>>336367870
>Twin Sea
I like how this is one of those levels that tests how well you can control by making you wait for the skewers. A little annoying at times, but stilll great. Wigglers at the end added challenge.

>the rocky hideout
Wrenches everywhere. The platform came out juuust enough past the left of the overhanging platform. Good touch. Nice intermediate level.
>>
Wait so Nintendo just deletes people's content? On what ground?

Despite the fact that the game is no way worth 60 bucks and barely 40, i was still considering picking this up pretty soon. But not if it is dead.
>>
Been playing a lot of your guys' first levels - it's kinda cool to see what people were able to come up with despite not being too familiar with the tools and having a limited palette unlocked.
>>
>>336369358
any glaring problem that made you not star the hideout? all kinds of feedback help my future levels
>>
>>336369551
Nintendo stated that they delete levels only if they break some rule, like inappropriate content or presence of bug/glitches. I guess many people uploaded some bugged levels withoput realizing/not on purpose, so they got deleted.

And no, game is not dead. You don't see much discussion around because there's nothing to discuss about the game, people can only play it and eventually share levels. The community is very active, many people plays levels on streaming, they beat time records and so on.
>>
>>336365573

I haven't looked at this since I uploaded it months ago so it's probably worse than I remember, and I don't remember being especially proud of it to start with

>>336369717
Personally, it helped me to see all the footage Nintendo made at E3 and beyond. Before buying the game, I pretty much already had some ideas set in my mind.
>>
>>336369358
Glad you liked it. Before they added keys, it wasn't easy to force a player to beat a boss to finish the stage. Limits breed creativity after all.
>>
>>336369551
Supposedly if it breaks a rule, but a common factor people on reddit have pointed out is that the people who have had their levels deleted weren't playing very often. I admittedly slowed down a lot in October, and I believe that was around the time my first stage got removed. I've been playing at least a stage a day as of late, and even my unpopular stages are still up.

>Dragon Realm
Its a good level. Tight jumps, Movement on the precise side, Power ups spaced so its refreshing rather than easy or punishing. Level design is great too.

>Bonetower's Castle
This level. This level man. The intro was confusing at first, but i eventually got around to getting the key waaay up there. Use of the key coins is exceptional. Challenging but not the ragey, "get me through this" kind. The subworld was well laid out too, The firebar section and the bouncy pad guarding the key were difficult, but in a good way. Nice use of props. The section that you had to destroy the Drybones with the spiked shells to get the key was particularly innovative, especially giving the player the option to use the spiked shells as helmets should they need to. Good length for a level too. 10/10 man keep doing what you're doing.
>>
I'm bookmarking some random stuff for later.
>>
>>336370540

>Time for adventure?
Coins were used well. The first one above the entrance got me because i didn't see the skewers in time. I didn't have all the key coins at the end, went back and saw your three. I'm like, "three?" After some deductive reasoning i figured i had to use the springs and the bullet bills, and lo and behold. The "kill the giant paratroopa" section was ok. The hammer bro got me right as i was entering the door! Creative level!
>>
>>336371719
thanks man I consider them to be my best levels
>power ups spaced so its refreshing rather than easy or punishing.
I always make an attempt at doing this because those levels that give you like one life to complete a bunch of super tough challenges bug me to no end.

>giving the player the option to use the spiked shells as helmets should they need to
glad that got through as the fight was designed with that in mind
>>
>>336372884
Hey, I appreciate it! I didn't know how else to tell people "If you don't have 3 coins by this point, head back." There's actually a hidden block with a vine in it around that point, but using the springs and bullet bills works just as well. Thanks again!

>Whimsical Waters With Women
Wigglers in the beginning section provided a good challenge. I liked you had to go under the flying piranha plants. I took the bouncing blocks up and around your pipe path, and ended up on the bottom path of the 2nd underwater section. Solid level. Directional arrows did help. Lots of... Women!

>Too many Ghost
Despite its name, i think there are just enough ghosts to provide a challenge to the player, but not in a stifling manner. Boo management played a part, but not as much as i thought from the name! the buzzsaw moving through platforms were implemented well. Spikes with vines! Enough room to not be kaizo-like, but still difficult, I like it. The moving platforms spawn at different times, making the climb up that section different every time! The pow block puzzle was great! I actually got caught on it once... Use of yoshi was good, even if it was for just a short section. Final bounce off of the parabones wasn't too hard. Nice level!

1st world of a four-world Kirby series. Play in order.

3 pink coins in each level to simulate the typical Kirby collectibles.

https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/8C44-0000-0224-D6AB

A simple field level loosely based on Kirby 64's first level.

https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/8117-0000-0229-CD22

Another field level, this one with 'dessert' themed obstacles like candy plants, cakes, ice cream and cotton candy cactuses.

https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/89D7-0000-022D-E796

Forest with a number of P-Switches and multiple paths.

https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/B2A1-0000-022E-8FFF

Requisite Whispy Woods variant boss fight. Didn't turn out quite as well as I hoped, but I think I got enough of my plans into it.

The second world might be delayed because I don't have the Dedede suit yet.

Is this true? Do you enjoy playing random levels?
>>
>>336387308

Baby Mario is an Expert costume. The only thing that can happen is sometimes getting an easier costume from beating a harder difficulty if you don't completely clear out the easier difficulties first.

>troll levels

Like the instant death 'lol epic thwomp right above you' ones? Yeah, I hate those. As soon as they come up I skip them.

Depends on the gimmick.

I find it helps to decide on some sort of theme for the level. Don't just dump tons of random elements in.

You also want to make sure that the level doesn't have 'cheap' or 'unfair' elements that will turn off players. Such things would include:

-flooding the screen with enemies
-blind jumps that have no way to clear without likely death
-unseen Thwomps dropping from above the screen to surprise and kill the player
-"Russian roulette" levels that drop you into instant death if you choose the wrong door, with no hint to which door is the right one until you pull the trigger on one

But really, the best thing to do is play a lot of levels and see what you like. Experience is the best teacher.

I haven't really seen too many Music/Undertale ones. "Don't move" ones are unfortunately common though. I don't like playing the 100 Mario challenge because most levels are kinda shitty, expert ones are usually the best but also often hard as balls. I like to bookmark levels from threads like this and play other ones from the same maker if I like it.

I wish Nintendo put together some kind of 100 Mario type runs using hand picked levels from users to assure quality. Usually only neckbeards make good levels, here's the breakdown of what I feel like:

Kid levels: Just a whole lot of crap dumped all over. Often gives you like 30 stars as soon as you start so difficulty is rarely a thing. Absolutely no sense of aesthetics, pipes just start from mid air.

Mom level: Sort of like kid levels but make a little more sense design-wise. Usually short and easy. The Mii is surprisingly often just called "Mom" in some language.

Teen levels: Basically Kaizo. Everything revolves around shitting on the player. Invisible blocks that have the laugh sound effect are probably all over as well as doors/pipes that lead to death. Some level of quality in terms of design but unfun to play because they are simply trial and error.

Dad levels: Someone who played Mario in the 80s/90s or just cares enough to learn to make reasonable levels. Tries to mimic Nintendo design but usually makes his levels a bit harder than official levels. Lack of new ideas but overall fun to play.

Neckbeard levels (/v/ etc.): People who have way too much free time and are enthusiastic about Mario Maker. Usually try to make levels that do new things or do old things extremely well. Levels range from easy all the way to extremely hard but the hardness generally is fair. The most fun to play.

Do you post and play here often? Random players don't usually give a lot of stars, but /v/ tends to be pretty generous.

This is the most popular one I guess though I have a couple that are easier. Look 'em up under my user if you feel like it.

Nah, I kinda played around Christmas but I haven't been active because I've been playing other games. People have been playing my stages simply via 100 Mario challenge I guess but likely they are too difficult for most so not many clears/stars. I tend to have a problem with the difficulty since I try to make something that isn't very hard but is challenging, yet the clear rate is only 2-6% for all of the levels.

I feel like trying to think of some levels that are easy to play but have a component that makes it feel good when you are progressing in them next.
>>
>>336399167
Bookmarked it but like I said it might take some time until I get to it.

As a general piece of advice, you might want to add a couple of easier levels. Also I think that your levels get more random play if you play a lot yourself.

You are mistaking attempts as players. The number next to the feet shows unique players. Clears include all the attempts made by those players.
All of your courses seem to have a 1/10 star rate, which is pretty good. If you want a better star rate from randoms on an expert level, it needs to be quite outstanding.

Randoms will give stars to any level that isn't crap 1/10 of the time. If your level does something to make it stand out, it can go as high as 1/5. Getting more than 1/5 without shilling is almost impossible to achieve.
>>
>>336403694
I've realized. I've been trying to catch these threads when they go up, shilled in some of them. Only 3/16 of my stars came from randoms ;_;

hmm, same for me, kinda. I made a campaign so the first level having the most stars isn't really surprising...

I wish more people stuck around for latter levels, going from 80 stars to 8 is quite the drop.

Probably Keyrock, great speedrunner on top of fun, complex levels.

>>336409085
It's hard to pick a favorite. There are probably a couple dozen on /v/ with some really amazing stuff. I'd hate to leave anyone out. I admire anyone who can put together a long, interesting campaign, especially since it takes me forever to finish making what I make.

There's too many great makers here on /v/ to break it down to a favorite, but Dog and Dack (when he used to work on his campaign) come to mind. There was this Japanese user that used to be #1 on the Star Ranking for a while that I used to like too - he (or she, had a female looking Mii) used to make a lot levels that were essentially puzzles and usually were based around a glitch to succeed.
>>
>>336411820

Don't take the alternative route and you should beat his time quite easily.

Oh hey, Jenome! I remember enjoying my marathon through your courses a couple months back. I'll bookmark the three that I haven't played yet.

>>336412937
Have fun. I'm mulling over some ideas for a bonus installment in my Magikoopa series, although it'll have to wait until I have more free time. My Dr. Feelgood courses are much shorter and sillier.
>>
>>336410181
Whoa Keyrock, thanks for the kind words! I'm honestly envious of your creative abilities to make levels as well as everyone else here on /v/, but I do love trying to run through as many stages as I can. I guess that kinda balances things out.
>>
>>336414196
Last fall, I was playing a huge amount and tearing through about 40 courses per sitting. After they added world records, I was still playing a lot, but I tended to go through most courses several times to whittle down my records. I think my stubbornness probably outweighs my skill. I know I've broken over 2,000 records, but most of that was breaking my own records about a half dozen times before moving on to the next course. It only adds up to a few hundred that I actively hold.
>>
>>336415109
Ah, I see. For whatever reason I never visited these threads when the game first came out. Once they added WRs I would just pick specific levels from 100MC or from the highlights to practice. But replaying stages is best way to go about getting good times - I keep playing through and restarting the stage until I get a time I'm really happy with, or until I'm so sick of trying that I give up. Sometimes I get a time I'm happy with on my first clear of the stage, other times take quite a while longer.
>>
>>336416139
>Sometimes I get a time I'm happy with on my first clear of the stage, other times take quite a while longer.
It's the same for me. I often find myself aiming for some arbitrary benchmark time, just based on my feel of what's possible for me on the course, then I'll give it a couple more shots after that. I usually stop when I don't feel that I'm making any more progress toward a better time, although I like to give courses a few more runs at the very end to lift the completion percentage a bit. I like to leave the percentage in better shape than it was when I started.
>>
>>336416652
>I like to leave the percentage in better shape than it was when I started
Oh yeah, especially if the course wasn't too difficult in the first place. I feel like when a course is first uploaded, if it's not a stage someone can beat within the first 30secs they leave it, and it'll drop the clear rate tremendously. Although that is helpful if it lands in Super Expert. Every once in a while I get a stage on Super Expert that doesn't belong, and it helps oh so much.
>>
>>336417932
I still haven't tried Super Expert yet. I completed everything in 100 Mario Challenge from before the update. I've heard that plain Expert is much easier now, but I haven't touched the mode at all since around last October.
>>
>>336418318
Yeah, Expert's gotten so much easier. I unlocked Super Expert for my friend a while back (cause you have to beat Expert once to get it) and I ended with 96 lives. Super Expert is ridiculous though, you really need to manage your lives, and even then it's skill mixed with luck. You're basically gambling on getting a level with no "pick a door" and no insta-kill moments right from the start.
>>
>>336419518
>You're basically gambling on getting a level with no "pick a door" and no insta-kill moments right from the start.
That sounds a lot like Expert from last year. At least you only have to beat 6 courses instead of 16.
