I must say i like both games but overall i prefer overwatch.
Battleborn is fun but it has the problem that you easily lose track of whats going on. In fights everything errupts into a bloomy effect hell like you are using alien guns in halo 1 and i often won games without the slightest idea why my team did better than the other.
Also after 1-2 Battleborn games i had enough for the day and after i closed Overwatch for the first time i asked myself why it was suddenly 8 hours later.
Maybe i'm gonna get battleborn when im fed up with the games i have and want bloomy, chaotic fun for 1-2 matches inbetween

The complexity from mobas comes from items and character knowledge both of which are simplified to the extreme in battleborn. The only dota-like feature left are creeps, in-game levels and "towers". Its basically just an fps with some strategy involved, but different strategy than counterstrike

Like i said before i had often matches in the beta where the teams looked even on paper - same levels, same items activated, etc - and my team stomped the other one with no problem. Especially in the escort mission moba gamemode (forgot how they called it) this happened often.
If you want to have moba aspects in your multiplayer shooter you also need to let the gameplay have somekind of strategy. But if the game fails to give you strategic information properly this will be very hard.

Because giving people shitloads of HP to start out with makes guns and attacks feel weak as shit and drags games out longer. I want to find a single fucking person on the face of the planet who finds the first twenty minutes of an ASSFAGGOT fun where you wait for your AI to start attacking other AI critters and try to get experience so you can finally get up enough HP to do something besides fire your projectile at the enemy team like thirty feet away.
Having people level just to get certain skills also drags the game on longer than it hast to. Every ASSFAGGOT starts the exact same way, with people sticking with AI and pussyfooting around for twenty minutes killing AI by clicking and sometimes pressing Q. Fucking SNORE.
Also in 99 percent of situations in an ASSFAGGOT you're going to be buying the exact same items every time with minor variations depending on the enemy team.

Nothing inherently wrong with trying to make a FPS game similar in concept to DotA and such.
The problem is, developers are jumping on the MOBA genre both too late, and without any understanding of what attracts people to the genre or why it works the way it does.
Most games in this genre are doomed to fail, and outside of the big two, even the most successful of them aren't particularly successful.
Battleborn is fun as fuck. If you have trouble learning then play Overwatch.
