Yes, this is true. Despite the fact I know how to counter these weapons, they attract the worse players because they're easier to win with. It's as simple as that.
BKGA with hornet ring is an insta-win, don't pretend parrying is difficult. Counter it with dead-angles, or just outbait them.
Washing Pole running R1 has huge range, but it's essentially chip damage. You can get in close, stay close to them. Watch out for people that know this counter and use it to parry, but chances are they'll be too shit to handle you. That, or hyper armour through it.
Dark Sword and Estoc are R1 spams, easy to parry. Babby's first PvP weapon, but scrubby nonetheless.

BKGA is a one-hit wonder; it comes down to knowing out to bait out his parries that he WILL try to do, because without ripostes, this weapon isn't special.
Washing Pole is exclusively a dash attack weapon for the most part. The damage isn't amazing, but it comes out fast and far. Learn to hug the user, don't let them breath. You will have to outperform him at close range where his own range is moot.
Dark Sword and Estoc are just fast weapons and little weakness. Fortunately, they are very easy to parry because of their fast speed means that by the time you notice an attack happening and react, that attack is coming at a predictable speed and trajectory.
With Dark Swords especially, I try and see how many times they can swing by evading around them; most of the time, if you evade around instead of away, they will keep swinging. Once you have a rough count of swings for their full stam bar, you can pressure them on their low stam following missed swings. General average at around 100 sl is 6-8 swings in close succession.
I won't deny that these weapons aren't annoying, but they perform different roles well and people will flock to them because they are easy to understand and use.
I use twin weapons, maracas, twinspears and twinswords mostly. Because I'm a fucking faggot and I need to feel unique. PvP is fun for the most part when you aren't having to play around the current meta.

I used to like the black knight greataxe though it had less range dual handed than single handed for no reason and the extra dual handed damage was pretty minimal.

I admit to using the Irithyll Straight Sword on my main in PvP but none of the weapons except for lagging washing poles with extra range give me trouble and I can beat them normally because they just spam their pokes and they are fucking predictable.
I just wait for the wind up or their mid roll and I capture them in a stun lock and they back off.

Don't get why people would ever use the Dark Sword over any other straight sword for a quality build. It uses WAY more stamina per swing 1 or 2 handed so it does way less damage per stamina bar than any other straight sword or if you're not going full ham puts you at greater risk with less stamina to roll / run / capitalize on an opening after an attack.

I use butcher knife and cathedral gs. Left hand havel shield and ceastus. Fighting great weapons I just block their 3-4 swings and punish them with the butcher knife. Anyone with a r1 spam weapon I either do the same or just switch to ceastus and parry them. Anyone who parry spams is also super easy to kill. All you have to do is bait their parry spam and then kick them and get two hits in. Havel shield is so op it's almost boring. I get summoned into a fight club and routinely kill 5-10 people before anyone kills me from playing sloppy.

I was using a Refined Murakumo and Firelink Greatsword for Catacombs invasions (SL62, +6/+3 reinforcements). Occasionally I'll remove them both and use the Exile GS. It's heavier, but it does more damage. Honestly not really worth the 7(?) extra weight.

the dark sword has better scaling that damage is made up easily at 40/40, no striaght sword needs a poke because r1s move the attacker forward and track very heavily and the range is deceptively long on strightswords especially online. the swings are decently faster by nearly a 1/3rd of a second and takes MUCH less stamina so more swings.

You can actually parry the moonlight projectile off the moonlight greatsword, so that's one ranged thing. Not the weapon art though.
Also the list is pretty small. Whips and jumping attacks 100%. Amongst ultra weapons the 2H attacks can be hit and miss, even in the same weapon class.
