I couldn't get it to work unless I held down L1 (guard) before hand.
Hold guard, spin your stick in half a circle and then let go of guard and press the required attack button immediately. For example if your character was facing forward while guarding, I would start the stick on the right and do a half circle motion until it was facing the left.

There's a rhythm to it where you can get some hits in and back out without him catching you with the spin. You can also stay in there and as long as you're up close to him and blocking to the right, you won't get hit. Just don't go to town on him, and don't try to dodge through the spin if you're too close. You can break his chains pretty fast anyways.

Triangle+Circle puts your weapon into super mode, and replaces your HP and stamina bars with one gauge that runs out as you get hit or perform actions.
For axes and spears, this is a great mechanic, for katanas on the other hand, it's absolutely broken as the katana living weapon square combo is an infinite combo string that stunlocks bosses until your gauge runs out, letting you do more than 60% of their HP.

Yokais KI is their shield protecting them from stun lock. The best way to kill Yokais is drain their stamina and inflict huge damage. Also KI blasts to make clouds go away because that regeneration their stamina aswell

That's not true. You can easily deplete their Ki quickly with Low Stance Attacks or Mid Heavy attacks, then chew off a great deal of their health with High Stance while they're down. The Guardian Spirit Living Weapon just speeds up the process a bit.
Against Onryoki, you can take him out with three to four staggers assuming you have a good weapon for the fight, no need for the Guardian Spirit.
With the Living Weapon, I find it easiest to save it for the second stagger which would take place right around the point where it would switch to its second phase. Shark Sword can cut off more than half of its health when it's down.
I find it very welcome that the Guardian Spirit Weapon exists as a means of cutting out the tedium of needing to do the same shit a dozen times in succession. You figured out the thing's pattern well enough that you stunned it three or so times in a row without dying, good job, let's move on.

I think the key difference, and the thing that will divide people, is tha Ni-Oh only plays like Souls. It doesn't have the world design, or (as far as we know so far) the comparatively deep, cryptic story. That's what a lot of people play Souls for, so I think that's a point where people will argue.
I certainly had a lot of fun with Ni-Oh, and it has some interesting combat mechanics, but I feel like it's going to be focused just as an action game, without story elements or the seamless world that draws people to Souls.

Enemies receive extra damage if attacked from behind.
Blocking has a faster start up than dodging so if you are getting comboed is better to block than dodge.
You also get extra damaged if attacked from behind so try to not give your back to the enemies.
Level up and and unlock skills. If you are going with katanas get the parries they are strong. You cannot parry demons only humans.
When enemies run out of stamina hit them 1 time with square and they will start panting. Get close and press triangle for a finisher.
Axe users have retarded poise so not try to interrupt their attacks because they WILL go through it and fuck you up. It is better to dodge their shit and wait for them to get tried before attacking.

Don't be afraid to mess around with the stances, they're there to help you in combat and once you learn to flow between them in combat it makes groups less of a challenge.

I ran with axe for the entire demo because the first upgrade from grapple is WHIRLWIND, which, while impractical as fuck, is fun, especially with living weapon on.
I think it's got better stamina drain, and I've been able to kill most enemies in a single string in high stance.

There are loads of Yokai that are humanoid. Onryoki was humanoid too for that matter, but there are lots that are closer to actual humans. Whether or not they'll be made into bosses is anyone's guess. Pic related

I have no interest in these kinds of games and hate Souls fans with a passion (I bet most of them have never heard of King's Field) but this game is starting something beautiful. Millions of retards who thought they were awesome because they could progress through a game that didn't hold your hand and now getting BTFO with a game that is actually trying to be difficulty and it is causing a flood of "I SUCK AT THE GAME THEREFORE THE GAME SUCKS!" If the game is not dumb down and gets a stable following it is going to create a counter weight to the Soulfags and be a new great soul of Internet shitstorms.
