This anime has honestly changed my life.
I went into it not expecting much, considering that was hyped to shit. Holy fucking shit, was I blown away. I was hooked, like a baby to a tit with creamy foamy milk. I could feel the energy and hype flowing through my body, bringing light to my dull life. I resonated with Ryuko. I could feel her struggle and her desire to surpass her limitations, something that struck me hard. Everything suddenly stopped when I heard the words:

and I started trembling. That was me, I feel like I've been "losing my way" these past years. I haven't been able to hold a steady job, my grades were starting to slip, and my parents suspect that I'm gay. It was right then and there that I knew that I had to get my shit together. I can't think of any other anime that has had such a profound effect on me, let alone on the first episode. Tomorrow, I'm going to be a better man. Thank you, Kill la Kill, thank you Trigger. Verdun is the game for you. The German's have a shovel soldier. On certain maps it is the most lethal unit because you also get 5 grenades.

Oh yes. The M1919 was too heavy. It had to be set up on a tripod. The models they made to be used like MG34/42s weighed almost ten lbs more and were way less useful ergonomically. The Americans were still using cloth belts too. Those aren't as reliable as metal link ammunition belts.
The German military is using the MG42's little sister, the Rheinmetal MG 3 today.

The M1 Garand was a far more easily produced weapon than the 41 OR 43 ever were.
That is why the US beat the snot out of the germans. Superior firepower. Where the germans had a few guys out of a platoon carried a G43 and a few carried MP40's, almost every US soldier involved in the western front had a Garand. Sometimes your mechanically superior weapon loses out to the productively superior one.

The STG44 is forgiven for coming late because it served an entirely new purpose, an automatic weapon that could suppress an enemy at range but was mobile and didn't need to be set up like an MG42. You just aim and shoot.
Just the fact that we were putting effort into better submachine guns instead of developing an assault rifle of our own should cause concern.

The American grunt had a better rifle but his platoon didn't have the integrated support of a solid machine gun like Heinrich's zug on the other side of the 2-way shooting range.

Probably not the main thing, no. I'm no expert in tactical strategies, except the ones where I spam 20 units of conscripts and right click them ino the enemy base over and over again, but each troop being armed with a rifle capable of accurate, sustained fire at the exact same range as the opposing troops, with easily double the accurate rate of fire, would do something to help.
