I'm loving these games, but don't have much experience with netplay to be truly competitive in them.

If you're looking for games your best chances are at the IRCs. Soku is probably the only game that is still getting newcomers if you want to play against new players though. You might be able to find some far off ULiL communities made up of casual players though.
