The nioh demo made me want to try out more souls games. Playing bloodborne for the first time. Lets talk about it.
Is bloodtinge as shit as it sounds? I like firearms and it would be interesting to make a build around the stat.
Yeah, it's pretty shit. Arcane is fun, but it doesn't get that way until the end of the game, so prioritize other stats first.

There are a couple of DEX/BLT weapons. I've never really messed with bloodtinge, but there are some builds out there. Not sure I'd recommend it as a first time build though.
Also, get The Old Hunters. It's pretty damn good and has my favorite boss in the Souls/soulslike games.

Bloodtinge takes a heavy investment to become worth it, but it's definitely viable. Don't do it on your first playthrough though.
so you know how the threaded cane has three scaling letter grades: E in strength, C in skill, and D in arcane, does that mean all three of the stats affects the damage output of the cane, or is skill the only stat governing it?
The threaded cane is the first weapon I chose but its dealing absolutely zero damage to the tree boss. Which by the way, this is pretty funny, I got to the tree boss before I got to the first bonfire / lamp. don't really know which route I took that I somehow managed to get to the boss that early, before I could even level up.
Which by the way, what triggers the doll to appear? After three deaths, the doll just appeared but I didn't really do anything I feel. It appeared after the boss though.
Do you know much about the game? If not then you should probably avoid threads like this and looking shit up, it'll be worth it.

Unless a weapon does some kind of magic damage natively (Holy Moonlight Sword, Blades of Mercy, Logarius' Wheel, Burial Blade, and possibly some others?), only the strength and skill scaling will affect its damage. If you slot in a gem that gives it lightning or fire, it will then switch to the arcane scaling.

It scales decently in Skill, and shittily in Strength. So shitty that it's not worth noting. Arcane scaling is a special case, it only comes into play if you put elemental gems into your weapon, which isn't something you can do right now.
The Doll wakes up when you get your first point of Insight. You get Insight from seeing a boss, defeating a boss, co-op and PvP, or using Madman's Knowledge items. There is a second shop in the Dream on the balcony where you can spend insight, but there's probably not much you want there now. Shops get more stock as you progress.
Bloodborne doesn't really have lamps all over the place like the other Souls games, there's just one at the start of the area and one when you beat a boss. The game relies on shortcuts a lot.

But I don't think it's viable unless you know where to go to get bloodtinge scaling weapons. You either get to an optional area where you need to fight a hard boss or you need to go to the DLC. Either way both options are open at the 1/3rd point of the game, before then you'll be suffering with no bloodtinge scaling weapons and probably wont upgrade whichever weapon you have because you want to focus on the others you're about to get.
For now go with a more safe build and on the second playthrough make a bloodtinge character.
Weapons are fun as fuck, it's just that getting to them requires previous knowledge

I replayed BB the most
DaS1's second half makes me want to vomit, I only played it twice and when I replay the game I stop once I get the Lordvessel
DaS2 is pure shit. nothing else to add.
DaS3 is too linear and I just found the game to be boring. All the pandering and fanservice makes me heavily dislike it. I've no reason to replay it since most weapons and armors are from previous games, which I've already experimented with so there's no point. They should have much, much more original content instead of rehashes to make it interesting for me.
Also the stat resets discourage me from caring about secondary characters, I can just reset and try a magic build out on the spot.
Bloodborne is perfect because it does NPC interactions and branching story paths the best. There's so much shit that can happen depending in the order you do it. I remember replaying it 3 times just to see how I could save the most NPCs.
I disagree with weapon variety, like I said you pretty much are able to unlock all weapons after Amelia and getting to her takes 1 hour once you know the game.

If you pick up the Saw Spear from the corpse dangling above the sewers, use that for serrated damage against beast enemies. Untricked deals a particularly nice amount of damage.

Rakuyo is OP as fuck, but I love the Beast Cutter purely because of moveset and design. It's the STR version of the Threaded Cane and it fuckin' shows.

The threaded cane in whip mode does 20% extra damage to beats due to the serration bonus some weapons have in their alt mode.
Saw cleaver has it when in short mode and saw spear has it in both modes.
If you're going for a dex build I recommend having a saw spear, the cane is cool and all but you really need something that hits beasts hard and fast and the whip is slow.

Am I the only person that truly started to appreciate BB on the second playthrough? Knowing my away around the areas after getting my balls busted by them on the first run felt... cathartic and relaxing.
Beating Gascoigne on my first try felt great too, since he killed me like seven times on my first run. Getting five viscerals in a row felt like a compensation for learning the mechanics.
It's almost like the game rewards you for investing effort. I haven't really felt like that with any other games in the franchise, at least not on this level.

One of the reasons I kinda lost interest in the game around the start Byrgenwerth was that I hadn't seen an alternative weapon and I was stuck with the Saw Spear.

You can level whatever you want alongside it. Honestly, anything other than Vitality past 25 isn't worth it. You can easily make a build that can use every type of weapon with similar damage at 10+ with relevant Blood Gems. Specific builds with 50 in a stat is a terrible thing.

Hit the soft cap on vit and get 50 skill first. IIRC you only need like 20 end for pvp. Also if you don't want to farm end game gems. Winter lanterns in nightmare of mensis are the second best thing. This game is cool to play as a single player game but pvp is horrible in all aspects. Only thing I miss from BB is parryable heals.

Seconding this. Bloodtinge and Arcane can both be great (especially with the old hunters) but they're tougher to pull off than skill or strength builds.
I'd suggest going strength for your first go through, I found it the easiest.
