What is the word on Starsector? It looks pretty cool but I am worried there isn't much to do in it or that it will never be finished.
I'll bump by saying that I like the idea of more fleet focused combat, some of the videos I've seen make it look like space mount and blade.
Does the combat looks interesting for you? If yes, then by all means try it out. As of now the most fleshed out aspect of the game is the combat, with everything else being a baseline to add to in the future.
The development is rather slow but by all means it is not dead. The (only) developer constantly posts on the official forums, and makes blogposts almost monthly. Game has also received some updates recently.
To add it also has a rather big mod base. The mod part of the forum has a lot of high quality mods that add factions, new ships, weapons and so on.
Also there should be a mega link somewhere so you can try out the game for free but I dont have it with me.

The combat does look like a lot of fun, and I did spend some time cruising through the mod section.
Does the game teach you to play well or should I look for guides online?

>Does the game teach you to play well
The game does have a tutorial to get you a good idea of how the combat works, but you'll still have to learn mostly through experience. I wouldnt hold it against you if you tried out Easy mode at first to get a hang of things.
Also there isnt a tutorial for most of the overworld, considering it's still a work in progress.

Hmm ok, thanks for the insight anon.
Also it looks like the /vg/ general has died, RIP.
It was nice while it lasted.
>>336291932
No problem anon. If you have other questions dont be afraid to ask.
>tfw /v/ Starsector threads are ded
Bring em back
>>336293846
Good luck

>>336292004
Hiro should really be pushed for a slower /vg/. God forbit LoL/CSGO/Dota have an event on the same weekend, if you thread is a little bit slow it will get fucking murdered.
>>336295997
Thanks anon, although I'm afraid it's a lost cause.
>>336296389
This would also be wonderful, but we both know we cant get rid of the MOBA curse.
>>336296389
>>336296567
move esports to /asp/
and then change the name to /esp/ a month later
>>336296567
I don't want them to, I browse /d2g/ myself, but there should be space for both.
The game is fun, my only gripe is how little to do there is once you start making lots of money. Is there a good place to buy ships or am I missing something
>>336297023
The Imperium GSE seemed like the place when I flew to it.
Unless you're playing without mods.

Military markets. On the Intel tab, when you hover over a star system it should tell you which planets have a military market.

I made a thread for whats worth.

I go to the military places but they have small ass ships. I want a battlecruiser or something

>/qa/
I totally forgot about that place. Stopped going after it was filled with nothing but s4s funposting
How do you guys feel about SS+ going modular?
>>336297428
Well the bigger markets should also offer a good selection of ships.
Places like Jangala and Sindria or Askonia or however the capital of the Sindria Diktak is called.
>>336298063
I never really bothered with SS+, so kinda sad but not too hung up on it.
>one day 1.0 will come out, and then there will be daily starsector threads once again
>>336297635
Never really looked at it but I just skimmed through the catalog and it seems like the /vg/ thread is the only one actually using the board for it's purpose.

Yup, sounds just like how I left it like.
Good to see some things never change.rip /qa/

It's back up mates
>>336299107
You just gotta believe anon.
>>336290737
Literal vaporware.
>>336299368
Vaporware is a game that is teased but isn't playable or real
Starsector is very playable and real and is fun as fuck
>>336299513
The full game isn't playable therefore it's vaporware
>>336299580
That's not what the word means

99% perfect but critically flawed with a few very bad developer decisions that should really have the ability to be toggled on/off.
The first being deep space encounters with fleets past a certain size having arbitrary "capture the command point" things spread across the battle map (makes no sense, how did they even get here) but the worst part of this is that these points grant stupidly overpowered bonuses to whichever fleet captures them and completely ruins any strategy you might want to set up and turns the combat into a boring zerg rush to command points.
The second being the removal of ammunition being a thing and letting kinetic weaponry have infinite ammo in battle when having limited ammunition was supposed to be a trade-off for being low-tier tech that doesn't cost as much points to equip to your ships and relatively inexpensive.
>>336290737
What weapons are those on the Falcon?
>>336304456
It's either from a mod or a really old image with a different sprite for one of the vanilla weapons.
>>336304456
PD lasers on rear, Reapers on sides, Maulers on front, and ??? on the center. They look like HI-lasers but Falcon has no large mounts.
OP here, didnt think this would still be alive. (still havent bought the game yet, but I will later tonight.)
Any essential mods?
>>336307769
>Any essential mods?
BLACKROCKS
>>336307769
Start off with Vanilla for a few days.
Then, move on to Starsector+ and Nexerelin
Great (balanced) faction mods are Diable, Imperium, Tiandong, Junk Pirates, and Scy
Great (unbalanced) mods include things like Templars (intentional, because they're supposed to be a boss faction), NGO (meme wedges), Neutrino (cool fucking weapons), and some outdated stuff like Appro
There's also stuff like Extra Systems and Steiner Foundation, but I'm not as familiar with those.
