-Skyward Sword's controls work fine, it's just waggling shit is annoying and the game itself is shit.

-Revengeance is a fantastic game that doesn't explain one of it's main features super well. The controls otherwise are great.

-Resident Evil 5 controls well except for the menu in coop which is a bit clunky. Makes me with for RE4 style inventory management, or at the very least an upgrade to your inventory space to spend money on.

-Star Fox Zero's controls are fine, it's just that by the time you get used to them the game's already over.

I think Galaxy's controls are fine if you consider the game they're in. Sure, Mario feels slow and unresponsive if you're someone with experience playing SM64/Sunshine and are used to being to the crazy acrobatics you can pull in those games; but in Galaxy 1/2, the lack of these options doesn't really inhibit you from accomplishing anything because the game is so linear and the obstacles aren't challenging. There would be no added benefit to the mobility of SM64 or Sunshine.

The problem with Final Fantasy VII is that the entire game, while consisting mostly of menus, was the first major game to defy the 'X=Yes, O=Cancel' set up.

For most people, it was extremely frustrating because the X button (now and past) was always established as the 'yes/okay/accept' button, but now it was the cancel button. While the O button was the 'yes/okay/accept' button.

This was basically FF7's biggest problem at the time.

hmm I suppose it's not just that but the camera, the input delay, the stickyness of the character, that really subtle feeling of jank you get when you play their games.

I bought Gold Edition on a digital sale for $10 because I thought "Eh, at least Lost in Nightmares looks alright", and I got what I expected. I get that RE5 is an action game but that doesn't mean I have to like that. I found the story more enjoyable than the campaign because running through waves of enemies with a friend is not my idea of a good time. I actually liked the parts where it wasn't an action game more like the motorboat swamp part, the minor puzzles in the caves or the beginning of the lab leading up to the initial licker encounters. Compared to all that I found the action gameplay competent but mundane. I ultimately got what I wanted out of RE5 but I also very much got what I expected out of it as well. Only thing that surprised me was the cover mechanics - I did not know RE5 tried to be a cover shooter and that just made me roll my eyes.

Gyro in Splatoon both works welll and is surprisingly intuitive. It only handles Y-axis camera control so aiming up and down is all you do with it. And even then you can go full analog stick control if you want.

Didn't have bad controls. The only thing I'd actually call bad about it would be the harp segments.

Primary issue is that people went in expecting to be able to do whatever the fuck they wanted, then criticized the game for doing things that weren't what they wanted. It may have had angular slashing controls, but it was still a fucking wiimote games. There are limits to what it can do, and a lot of people, as with ANY game that doesn't use a fairly standard control scheme, blamed the controls for being bad rather than their lack of ability to understand the limitations and work within them. It's like being given a colouring book and scribbling fucking everywhere and saying it's the colouring book's fault for having bad pictures.

Some people may have had legitimately faulty or damaged controllers, or lived in geomagnetic fuck you zones, or on houses on hills or some other shit that fucked with the calibration and sensory capabilities of the controllers, but those aren't the game's fault. The fact that people can play the game perfectly fine without experiencing issues fucking proves that the game didn't have bad controls, and calling them bad when they're merely different is fucking pathetic.

Kid Icarus: Uprising also suffered from this.

On a different note, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass didn't have bad controls per se, but it certainly had some extremely ill-advised controls. For shit like the tools and mapping it was fine, but basing character movement on touchscreen without some kind of digital slidepad and with the game on the same screen you're touching? That is not a good idea, unless you're playing fucking TWEWY.

Setting aside controls, however you feel about them, even the content is bad.

>dungeons probably the shortest and most linear they've ever been in a Zelda game
>very few items, yet they still waste one of the item slots with the redundant fucking slingshot
>slow, shallow, and repetitive combat
>items have very limited use in combat, so most everything is fought with just your sword and shield
>graphics pretty poor in a lot of areas
