We haven't had a REAL battlefield game since Battlefield 2.
2142 was fucking great and all but it was a step in the wrong direction by consolidating classes. They became too self sufficient. Suddenly everyone was either a medic, tank buster, or ammo distributor.
Bad Company series brought destructive environments into the game which I love, but following that path, everything else about the game, is what brought us to Battlefield 3, 4, and hard line (and Battlefront) which edge ever closer to becoming call of duty with vehicles, which Battlefront was.

I don't understand both devs make games limited by the same console hardware. it's just a matter of how you allocate those available resources. one dev may choose to use smaller maps in order to have a higher polygon count in the character models. another may forgo the nice looking character model/game objects to get a larger open world game.
