The problem is unlike WW2, there are no real bad guys. Or at the very least, there isn't a side blatantly in the wrong.
The whole conflict was just the culmination of a clusterfuck of documents that say "if someone declares war on me, back me up" creating a Web of alliances that made it all exploding inevitable. It's why there were so many revolts and mutinies, to a lot of soldiers they didn't see what they were fighting for.
