The demo for VLR went up on October 2nd, 2012. The game itself was released in NA on October 23rd.
If they decide to do this again, then you can expect the demo to come out on around June the 7th, but it's just as likely for it to come up before or after that date.
Knowing how dank the development team is, I bet we'll get the demo much sooner than we think.

You have to draw each frame of animation on a sprite, but with a model you can just program how it moves. That's less need for artists, especially when doing tricky perspective shots like Phi's super-jumps.
