Yukair could be needed for Mitsuru to stop grieving, but then I don't know why Akihiko couldn't have done it. Yukari;s dad is needed though.
Revolver Jesus isn't needed at all. Strega are the most pointless characters I have ever seen. They do absolutely nothing for the plot, and are just there to try and make you forget there's no plot for 2/3's of the game.
Not to say I'd want characters like Junpei or Yukari to be taken out, considering thye were actually good characters. Ken is both a shit character and completely irrelevant.

And I disagree, getting development absolutely does makes you relevant to the plot, especially in P3 which is a game about creating bonds and connections with the characters in order to overcome death.He lost because he couldn't handle the heat

I do think P4 did a better job of it, but they still pale in comparision to IS and EP, and even then not all the main characters in those games were necessary.
