It is and it's not. Due to Blizzard creating three forms of the exact same raid, people have lost all desire to compete at the highest level. Especially when expansions hand out common gear higher than the best raid gear stat-wise.
Thanks to the news of the expansion, entire pro-raiding guilds have disbanded.

Getting 80k gold per month is quite easy though, so playing without spending a dollar on subscription is no problem.

You can get by buying gametime with gold even when the game is dead before the next expansion, let alone when the casuals come back to fuck around with the new shiny stuff.
You can probably easily grab a year's worth when legion drops.

Unfortunately it's still the best the genre has to offer. I can't wait for Crowfall, hopefully it will give me the Shadowbane nostalgia I've been looking for and have real PvP instead of carebear shit present in current MMOs.
