Can someone please explain why they brought back Guile when Charlie is already in the game? I'm sure there are some small technical differences between them, but for casuals (most people playing the game) they are the same thing, pretty much like the Fire Emblem clones in Sm4sh. I thought Capcom said they wanted more variety with the cast in SF5?

Fucking idiot, obviously you haven't played the SFV or any of the other games and I am very sure you're just replying to yourself in this thread. Charlie gameplay wise is way more different then Guile in SFV. Way more than Ken and Ryu. Charlie has been an established character since Street fighter fucking 2. Playable in Alpha where he was a more of a Guile clone, but with a few differences and also Guile wasn't playable in the Alpha series except for a ps2 port of 3 if I remember right. Charlies back in SFV and so is Guile and for that reason they changed Charlie gameplay a lot. Now fuck off with this pointless thread cause nothing I hate more is people pretending to know or dickride something they barely have any knowledge on.

Firstly the two play nothing a like and we're not talking smash Mario and Luigi differences, no Charlie got overhauled completely and plays nothing like he did on alpha, and secondly the entire point for guile was to look for Charlie after he went MIA and this is like the first game where guile will meet him and they're will more to add to the two and that back story

Guile still has his turtle tendencies while Nash plays completely different from his Alpha roots. He's more focused on mixups to a point that his flash kick behaves differently as well. The only major similarity he has with Guile now is Sonic Boom, which has so much start up frames now, it may as well be a different fireball like the rest, only sharing a name.

I gotta say, if you believe those two to be absolute simply because they're military dudes, you're only setting yourself up for disappointment.

So going by looks, we are to assume Ryu and Ken play the same as well, which is confirmed wrong.

You're case is built upon just visually looking at a character to gauge how that character plays, which isn't a real thing. People who play fighting games and at least have some knowledge of how fighting games work knows that playing as the character is how you figure out how they are meant to work.

"Guile looks like Nash" isn't s problem. Your complaint has no basis in what is actually the reality of the game. Noboby with any interest in the game goes in thinking these characters are clones until they play them and feel the control difference. People who are not invested in the game do not matter.

or Smash

Ryu is the important one, not Ken. Ken is expendable and can get cut, as can Akuma. Just give Ryu the quick change mode.

OP the difference lies in play style. Everything from the fact that Charlie has "Shoto"inputs while Guile is a charge character to the fact that their normals are completely different.
Charlie has numerous normals and also has very high mobility and combo potential. He excels at rushdown more than Guile imo and has a level of unpredictability thanks to his teleporty shenanigans.Guile is more defense oriented, throws slower sonic booms, and has a much larger flash kick. He has maybe them most unique moves in the game and thanks to that has an amazing spacing game.

I would recommend you go and find SFV frame data and character guides if you want anything more detailed.

Honestly Guile and Nash are a lot like Mario and Ryu in Smash.

They both have an uppercut, fireball and spin move, but they play, move and approach extremely differently.
