Rob Thwomp was raised in an abusive family. Every night his father would come home and beat him and his mother. One day when he was 13 his mother left. After that the beatings from his father became progressively worse and worse. One night as he lay crying silently and bleeding in his bed he stood up and walked out the door. He found the nearest railroad track and kept walking. It wasn't until the sun came up behind him that he realized what he was doing. He looked at his shadow, a copy of his father's. Stretched out before him, reminding himself of what he left behind. He started to run, his fists clenched angrily. He would run as far as he needed to and find his mother, who he believed had found a place safe from his fathers rage. He wondered from city to city, begging and stealing what he needed. With no education or connections he only had his mothers name to lead him. Every city held the same disproving faces, shaking their heads at his pleas. It wasn't until he was 18 that he found her. A kind old woman had fed him when she found him shivering under a bridge in the rain, she even let him sleep in her guest room. When he mentioned his mothers name her face lit up. As soon as the old woman told him the location he was out the door, running as fast as he could. He knocked went to knock on the door when he heard a scream. It was a sound he had heard a thousand times before, a woman's voice pleading and the sound of glass shattering to the floor. The sound of fist hitting flesh and the cries of pain. His mind went blank and he grabbed the shovel next to the door. The next thing he remembered was the blood, pooling on the floor as his mother screamed, fumbling for the phone to call the police. His knuckles were pure white from the grip he had on the shovel, the head of the man split in two on the ground. The last thing he ever said to his mother before they took him away was. "UUNNRRGGHHH"
