As someone who's been sorta skeptic to the whole VR revolution going on, I tried the VIVE for the first time the other day.
And holy shit, it was one of the most fun, enjoyable and refreshing experiences I've ever had.
Even though this setup is expensive as fuck I am contemplating actually getting a kit now.
>>336179849
same anon, tried it for the first time at pax east and it was great. I really dont like the price tag for it but I get why its so expensive, I might wait a couple of years before getting one. I really want to see more games first.
Wait like 2-5 years for the tech to become cheaper to acquire for better performance and to get a larger library of games to use it with.
>>336180594
pretty much this!
Impressive technology being used for the equivalent of bargain bin Wii launch games.
>>336180594
And therein lies the problem: nobody is going to put the development into it for the next two to five years if nobody buys it now because it's nothing but shovelware.
Stop shilling, VR is shit.
>>336180981
Unfortunately the biggest issue in the VR genre right now is exclusivity shit. It's going to ruin it before it even begins.
>>336179849
You need a 980 or higher to even be able to use VR, not including the fact that you have to pay for the actual unit itself. It's too costly and there's nothing out for it. There won't be for a while. In a few years it will be affordable at least, but I'm not sure if it will catch on so well that it becomes the new standard for gaming or something
I think when it costs less than buying fucking two consoles at the same time, I'll consider trying it.
>>336181019
Enjoy being stuck in the past gramps
>>336179849
Why dont shilltards at least try to disguise their shilling attempts, might aswell slap a ™ at the end of your entire post
I think it's the future of everything but the current software is like the first generation of games on DS, total gimmick shit. In 20 years when a new generation, who has grown up with VR and understands how to use it, grows up it will become amazing.
>>336179972
Tried it at PAX as well, I think PSVR is going to be more popular and room scale won't take off for a for a generation or two. Going to wireless will be a big improvement
Let's start for something fundamental, why do you call VR to this? I don't see VR here what I see is a overglorified set of mobile monitors with motion sensor At what level this becomes "reality"
>>336179849
I agree, my fellow regular non-shill /V/ poster.
(5 cents has been deposited into your account, Mubutu)
>>336181913
Room scale is stupid and pointless. It's like Wii, no one wants to stand up and wave their arms around like morons. People want to sit in a chair/couch and use a controller. The Vive is a meme. It will be dead in a year.
>>336182152
I thought I'd hate having to stand but it didn't bug me at all.
Of course I wouldn't want to HAVE to stand for all VR games in the future but it was a rather fun experience regardless.
>>336181913
>wireless, literally my only complaint was that big wire going down from the headpiece.
It didn't bug me until I took a couple turns and it sort of tangled around my legs a biT.
>>336181573
>>336182007
If you haven't tried it, there's no reason to shitpost anons.
I think what it does, it does really well considering its the first incarnation of consumer releases.
However, the problem I have with it are its massive limitations at the moment. Most importantly, everything involving movement. As it stands right now you'll get motion sick if you play games where you're not locked into one position (or in the Vive's case, a small walkable wiggle room). This means for a great deal of games, VR isn't all that applicable yet. If all you played were racing/flight sims, sci-fi shooters, and little gimmicky indie games built around VR I'm sure you'd be just fine. But right now it doesn't work for the plethora of first person shooters, RPGs, adventure games, puzzle/horror games, etc.

>>336184498
I know about the omni, but that's making a niche market out of an already niche market. That's a steep investment and space investment just to get around the movement issue.
And since it's such a niche market, that means a great deal of games won't be designed with that in mind. The bulk of the games are still going to be cockpit sims and games where your legs don't work.
imho you have wait for at least 5 years before it will take off, pic related will cost ~200 by then and will have a huge hardware base. Vr will be obviously mostly casual games with some occasional must have titles.
>>336181341
at pax east we got to play all new games for the Vive, the pc they had was only using a 960. It ran a stable 96fps for all the games I tried. so your post is not true for the first part.
>>336184498
the omni is shite
if you actually try to run you'll fucking break your bones
>>336185091
Samsung VR is pretty shit. It's like 400p max resolution.
Expensive
Until we hit 21:9 for 2160p at 144hz on 8" screens, VR is shit.
>>336181913
>>336182152
Room scale is tried and proven and every VR game can easily implement it. Or they don't and you lose nothing. It's just a by-product of Valve's tracking system, it's not a gimmick and it only adds to the experience when its used.
You guys are wrong though, the actual majority of people who try VR don't want to use a controller or sit. They're casual gamers(if you can even call them that) that will just glee at the chance to move around a virtual reality even if they can only move a couple of feet. Kids, old people, drunk people, this list goes on.
I'm already in my 30s, so I don't give a fuck about VR.
I can't be the only one on /v/ with a job and has bought a Vive. What are you faggots playing? And for the love of god has anyone gotten MMD working with this yet? I want to fondle some fine anime tiddies.
>>336187672
>Retarded weebfag bought into VR just because he's a permavirgin thinking only with his dick
Further proof weeaboos are the cancer killing vidya.
>>336179849
The fact that it can't do unlimited walking makes it a worthless joke.
>>336187672
Japan can't even afford VR, they're still running Windows XP
>>336187672
does MMD only work with the oculus? This will affect my purchasing decision
>>336183349
Teleportation works much better than you think it would.
>>336189057
It works with the vive supposedly.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEvcO9loj44
But I've gotten stuck here because I can't read moon ;.;

>>336189398
Teleportation is shit.
>>336188597
you're just mad that I'm gonna fug your waifu
>>336189882
It isn't when you actually try it. It's very intuitive and you are able to travel and move around without any issue really, and you can limit how far you can teleport so it doesn't get ridiculous. In valve's demo they treated the teleportation like throwing a ball from where you were standing. The only thing I've seen that I like better is one where you point the controller and pull a trigger to move in a direction, similar to what they have in the "vr caves" that almost every university has for some reason.
>>336179849
I got a Vive.
It's cool, I use it daily. Kind of cool to watch Netflix on huge screens in any direction you look, or indulge in my giantess fetish with 360 videos and games.
Room-scale is what makes it for games, Oculus sucks in this regard. Being able to interact with things makes it a new medium of entertainment and will be the future in less than a decade. Just wanted to enjoy it now in case I die by some unforeseen circumstance later.
Optics are meh and it takes too much to run (using a 970 myself but no issues) but it does really feel like you're in it (videos can't convey this).
Current score: 7/5/10
Future: 10/10 for sure
Worth it now? If you got the cash, sure. Costs as much as a cheap vacation and will last much longer.
>>336189971
Sorry, I don't lust after generic sameface animu daggerchins devoid of personality or decent fucking games. Probably because I'm not a permavirgin weebfag.

MMD does work with VIve.
Source: I've used it
>>336191238
How? I can't figure out how to set it up.
Please help.

3d women have nothing on this tbhdesu fampai
>>336180770
this fampai
They're squandering it on bullshit
>>336182152
it varies from person to person and game to game
I would definitely want to stand for some kind of 3D shooting gallery game.
>>336191796
I didn't expect much from indie devs but I was still disappointed. I've been incredibly impressed with the tech and I'm glad I have it so I can experiment with it and hopefully make a few games that might seem compelling but I would agree it just isn't there yet for the average consumer.
That said what would everyone like to see in vr? Are there any particular games or experiences that it needs to have that nobody has touched on yet?
>>336191452
I've just used a program that used MMD. Waifu Sex Simulator. There's a readme in the download that tells you how to run it.
>>336192150
>Waifu Sex Simulator
OH SHIT NIGGA I JUST THOUGHT YOU WERE SHITPOSTIN
I FUCKING LOVE YOU MAN
>>336192089
I'm willing to kill for a MechWarriors kind-of game in vr. Just the idea of it makes my dick hard as diamonds
>>336192089
I don't want to hold two dicks in my hand to play video games.
>>336193339
no u

Oh god I keep falling through the floor. I can see my waifu for a glorious second before the world rushes past me and I fall into the abyss.
Is this some kind of deep social commentary on lust and sin? Is my virtual avatar acting the part of an allegory to tantalus?
Will wait for pic related
the price is just at the limit what what I find appropriate for a 1st gen product, anything more than that would be too much, especially in europe where a vive costs over $1000 with shipping.
PSVR seems to be the only one with something other than 2 hour long overpriced $40 tech demos. I also like its AA and AAA library more. Not to mention I won't have to set up shit and it'll just werk.also cheapest price to watch VR porn on something better than mobile VR
2 more generations down the road and I might consider a PC HMD
