Is anyone else worried that VR might lead to the destruction of mankind? With some Japanese men already opting out of having children because of anime chicks, wouldnt VR just be even worse to mankind?
VR is a gimmick and actual virtual reality will never be achieved.

OP's image is the reason I haven't bought into VR yet.
I have the funds set aside for a HTC Vive, but i'm scared of picking it up and just losing days at a time in VR playing comfy games like Elite.
Closed Shell Syndrome is coming, if not this VR gen then next for sure. It'll be a few people at first, then more and more with each gen until it becomes a problem.

Simple process: Every new application designed for implant-based AR/VR stuff will have to go through a mandatory process of months of codemonkeys sorting through the code, double and triple checking everything to make sure there's nothing malicious.
Codereaders will become a huge job market to make it all go faster since tons of games and apps will be submitted on a regular basis.

this good episode of this shitty show is really relevant to this discussion. interesting how people were thinking about how VR and the internet could both steal your social life and connect you to other people youd never meet otherwise, 20 years ago.
it will never replace the real world and will always be something of a niche, but it will certainly add another "layer" to human communication. it takes people to make virtual worlds, even if its one you stay in alone all the time
I'll get gen2. Maybe gen3 if gen2 isnt enough or an improvement.
