They are incredibly long and difficult novels. Infinite Jest is manageable for the average reader but Ulysses and GR are borderline unintelligible unless you have a good understanding the the other works of the authors and some other marginally related things.
Basically, they are arbitrarily held up on /lit/ as the be-all-end-all of literature because of their complexity.

problem is with the exception of Dorf Fort, /v/ doesn't discuss many complex games. Maybe SS13. I threw SF in there because its mechanics and inputs are difficult for a large percentage of /v/, to say nothing of more obscure titles like KOF.
