What is /v/'s equivalent to /lit/'s "meme trilogy"?
>>336174650
Sonic genesis trilogy
What is the context?
Dark Souls
>muh deep lore
Plus it's overall just a meme series
>>336174650
dark souls
undertale
fallout 3
>>336174848
They are incredibly long and difficult novels. Infinite Jest is manageable for the average reader but Ulysses and GR are borderline unintelligible unless you have a good understanding the the other works of the authors and some other marginally related things.
Basically, they are arbitrarily held up on /lit/ as the be-all-end-all of literature because of their complexity.
Deus ex
Morrowind
Dark Souls

given>>336175173
that's much better than mine.
>>336174650

best answer in the thread so far
>>336175205
i agree with morrowind and dark souls but i never see people discuss deus ex anymore
>>336175173
>Ulysses
>unintelligible
>>336175819
it is unless your a literal genius
>>336175173
>unintelligible
nigga i read it in 4th grade and understood just fine lmfao
>>336175904
It's true that GR is needlessly dense and incoherent, but Ulysses is textbook stream of consciousness prose. You just need to think while you read it.
>>336175173
in that case
Dorf Fort
Metal Gear Solid
Street Fighter IV
>>336176189
dorf yes. the other two, no.
>>336175904
Ulysses is exactly as unintelligible as a season marathon of Seinfeld. The only hard part is remembering all the names without any visual association
Metal Gear Solid 3, Stalker, Deus Ex
this board is too fast
>>336176235
problem is with the exception of Dorf Fort, /v/ doesn't discuss many complex games. Maybe SS13. I threw SF in there because its mechanics and inputs are difficult for a large percentage of /v/, to say nothing of more obscure titles like KOF. MGS because its manageable for the average player but the story is somewhat complex.
>>336176647
I've seen the occasional Dominions thread.
>>336177083
Do you play Dominions? I just looked it up and it looks pretty cool. Comparable to Civ or Total War?
revision
Dark Souls
>a gigantic timesink, has relatively complicated stats, tons of mysteries to unravel
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
>less of a timesink but massive replayability, combat is a bitch and a half in some cases, story is also complex
Dwarf Fortress
>mother of all city sims, interwoven subsystems upon interwoven subsystems
>>336175173
>>336174650
In that case
>Dwarf Fortress, without mods
>EVE Online, without external programs
>La Mulana EX, without a guide
They're all extremely complex games in different ways, and an elitist group of each - whether sincerely or ironically - openly disparage anyone who uses external aid to understand them.
I honestly don't know, and I'm from /lit/

>They're all extremely complex games in different ways, and an elitist group of each - whether sincerely or ironically - openly disparage anyone who uses external aid to understand them.
dorf fort isn't like that. most refer players to the wiki + mods like lnp and rapist. it's also not a hard game at all
>>336178087
stalker doesnt belong in that list
I used to have a chart of tier list for complexity, but I don't know what happened to it. All I have is this and a variation of it that's more pretentious.
>>336178087
stalker is pretty straightforward. replace it with deus ex or torment instead, maybe mgs2
>>336174650
Who is /v/s Equivalent of Žižek?
>>336175904
It isn't, I think you're thinking about Finnegans Wake which is fucking ridiculous. Have you ever tried reading it out loud? It becomes much much clearer.
Gravity's Rainbow, though, that shit is meant to be hilariously uncomprehensible.

Replace SMB3 with SMW and HL2 with Deus Ex and this list is perfect.

I think that the aim with that was to be a little forgiving towards newer gamers.
>>336174650
Wizardry
Dorf Fort with no graphics
The Dark Spire
>>336174650
Plotwise, Metal Gear Solid 2 should be one of those.

It's literally the Pokemon game made for hipsters.
>>336178859

Metroid Prime, Deus Ex, MGS3

>>336174650
Dark Souls
either MGS1 or MGS3 (probably 3)
Undermeme
>>336180062
The whole concept of video games is post-modern.
Also, Gravity's Rainbow is just a particularly weird book from a varied and highly regarded bibliography.
Super Metroid, X-Com UFO defense, Final fantasy 6
Bonus: SMT:Nocturne
>>336180437
ALl these are good games the average underage kid on /v/ hasnt played but hold as some of the best
>>336180343

>>336180632
The ultimate hipster is the one who likes the best entry completely unironically.

i don't think its hard to understand per se, its just complex due to shit like all of the footnotes and keeping track of what's going on for 1000 pages
>>336181172
But by your retarded logic history books are probably even more "outdated", seeing as how widely available that information is on the internet.
>>336181523
No, even my 12-year old nephew has beaten Deus Ex. It's just the retards.
Borderlands.
>>336181592
nethack is both a classic and esoteric garbage, which makes it perfect for this list

>>336182210
I'm guessing he's from /lit/
>>336175173
If we're just going for needlessly complex games which /v/ likes, then I'd say:
Morrowind
Alpha Centauri
Wasteland
>>336181514
vinyl is making a comeback, yo
>>336174650
Isn't /lit/ full of commie faggots?

Is this bait? Even high schoolers are expected to know where to find reliable sources on the internet beyond wikipedia and google front page shit.
Get an education, buddy.
>>336182410
No, that's /his/. They are autistically obsessed with being as distanced from /pol/ as possible
>>336174650
Dwarf Fortress, Dark Souls, and maybe God Hand
>>336182410
Maybe commie by American standards. I just think that there needs to be a balance between socialism and capitalism in order to create something new and better, but most Americans would say that makes me a "commie" for even entertaining the idea of wealth redistribution.
>>336182257
I am too, its just a term used to distinguish "regular" text from verse (poetry)
Its an old as fuck word with a clear definition, dosent really matter what some memer says is good prose or not.
>>336182410
/lit/ is actually a really good board, albeit with its share of trolls and shitposters, but that's 4chan for ya.

That's nice, go make some aspirins, viagraboy.
>>336183563
Yes, that's the point. Your bullshit chemistry major isn't important since it doesn't pertain to the topic at hand. The reason I questioned if you were educated in the first place is that I assumed a person in the university system would have some level of awareness of what is appropriate conduct.
>>336174650
From left to right.
Hotline Miami 2
Darksouls
Jazz Punk
Anyone who says they like those books though immediately makes me think they're a huge fucking tool.
Puzzles are fun and you can turn a book into a puzzle simply by reordering the chapters.
Haruhi was a mediocre anime made popular because it was a puzzle.
The monogatari series is much the same.
Those 3 books though commonly savage basic sentence structure and the dictionary to try and disguise a simple story as excessively mysterious and such actions can comes at the cost of being entertaining.
It is the literary equivalent of selling a game on graphics instead of gameplay.
>>336182576
That's because everybody thought /his/ would become a(nother) hitler/3rd reich circlejerk board which is why moot didn't want to make it in the first place.
>>336175173
I think you are confusing Ulysses with Finnegan's Wake

Finnegans Wake is literal meme literature. I mean what the actual fuck.

The vast majority of the game literally has timestamps attached to them. Only retards think it's "excessively" mysterious. One of the most common complaints was that there wasn't enough intrigue compared to the first game.

>>336182685
There already is a balance between socialism and capitalism.
>>336184763
many of your average americans don't want this though, for one direction or the other. in my experience there are many more that want the destruction of all things socialist than the few crunchy hippies that want all things capitalist to die, but it may just be my area
>>336184763
Man it's leaning hard in the capitalism direction. For better or worse.
>>336184954
