There is an item and even a skill to fix this.

Not all demons will respect you if you give them whatever they want. Some will actually like you better if you say no. You sometimes get into a battle with a demon asking you a question or outright joining you. Sometimes before you kill a demon they will give up and ask that you take them along instead. You might not be able to get all of the demons without spending money/items but you can easily beat the game without giving anything. While the game don't hold your hand it pretty much always toss you a demon or two every so often assuming you fuse enough. You can't get more demons if you have a full party and if you already own a demon of the same name they can't join and just give an item instead even though it would been a guaranteed join otherwise.

My personal rule of thumb for giving money/items for negotiations. If the money is something I can get in like one good battle then sure why not? If the items is something I already have like 60+ of (you get flooded with life stones even with min luck stat) then sure why not? If they ask me for more money than what the battle is even worth then I will tell them to fuck off, if they ask for a soma or something then they can easily fuck off. Sometimes demons will still join even if you repeatedly tell them no. I think it increase the odds just slightly honestly depending on the demon.
Also always answer the question as you would really answer it. That way you can remember what choices you had made. Only select the other choice if you want to see their other dialog. Giving the answer that "they want to hear" never works, it is completely random and they will have an excuse to not to join you regardless of the answer.

Not even falseflagging, I don't have time for games anymore except for the occasional DOOM wad but nocturne was tight.
It's a game where you can punch nearly every deity out there in the face. With zero fucks given. It's also the first SMT game that was translated, so it holds a special place in a lot of people's hearts.
Also it has Dante. I have 100 hours on the PS3, I should probably do another playthrough in NG+. It's not like Persona games so expect brutal difficulty right out of the gate.
