Just yesterday I realized that he dies right after you defeat DragonSlayer Armor, that is also the only boss where you can summon Eygon.

DaS3 is my first Souls game. I was in the Undead Settlement and I came across pic related. I was low on health and had just passed a friendly NPC so I didn't think he'd be friendly too. Long story short I ended up accidentally killing this dude and apparently he's like a meme status fan favorite and now I'm fucking pissed because I didn't want to kill a friendly NPC who offered special quests, items, and dialogue.

I wish I had seen it my first playthrough.I had no reservations about using the playthrough checklist after Yoel fucking up and died on me, but I tried to abstain from spoilers such that I would trigger all the possible encounters without knowing exactly what they were about.
Therefore, I knew I was supposed to see Patches sooner or later before I finished the Cathedral, but not in what context.
By the time I completed the whole place and got to the boss fog he still hadn't shown up, so I looked online and found out I didn't see him because I solved his trap before he set it up by exploring the rafters early and raising the bridge myself.
Now I'll never know whether or not I would've been able to tell if it was a trap on my own. I usually pick up on traps in vidya so it always feels rewarding when I'm right.
At least if you miss that encounter you can still get the best gesture later on.

The one you killed was Siegward of Catarina of DaS3. They have similar quirks and the same gear, but are different characters, which is why earlier people were saying they like Siegward better (to which I agree).
I don't blame you for your instincts, but you always gotta be careful; there's more to lose from killing a friendly NPC than there is in making an incorrect assumption and getting killed by a hostile enemy.
The real bullshit is in the same area, leading up to the Mound Makers. They were the covenant I was most interested in joining leading up to release.
I was fucking terrified of these enemies my first runthrough, so when I came across the one that's a FRIENDLY NPC I didn't get close enough to see the interact prompt because I killed it ASAP.
Like, it's a fucking pile of corpses that can hurt you that's right next to an item and a cliff, how am I supposed to expect it to be sentient and non hostile? So I killed the damn thing and missed the hint that the OTHER typically-hostile-enemy was actually the way to get to the covenant.
It's better than being locked out permanently, but damn I wanted to grape it up so badly on day 1.

Overall the NPCs didn't seem to really work for me.
Bought a dark miracle from Irina really early and only after 2-3 lords of cinder, Eygon got her out of Firelink Shrine.
Heard that after getting Irina back, she goes completely nuts but that didn't happen either.

The voiceacting just really gets me in these games. Normally I don't feel bad for killing NPCs, but here they're really endearing for some reason.

You can definetley hear someone scream in agony when Aldrich does melee attacks. There's a long 'nggguuuhhh' every time, but it gets muffled over by the music

I like almost everyone here. Favorites are Priscilla, Siegmeyer, Lautrec, and all the sisters of Chaos.
Solaire is also very charismatic, even is he became a Meme Lord. Its real hard not to like Dark Souls 1 NPCs.
