Problem with Splatoon is it's actual theme (and marketing campaign) was being a kid's video that looks wacky and a bit retro in terms of some stylistic choices, even though the game is for all ages. The game itself is easy but actually has a high enough skill cap most kids will never be as good as adult players who take the game too seriously. So even though the game is popular enough, most people still aren't sure who is actually supposed to be playing
