Shit, they don't even need to make games, they could just milk their IPs dead through other means for years to come. Nintendo's target audience has always been the mass market, and unfortunately they are all playing games on smartphones. Without them, none of Sony's, Microsoft's or Sega's consoles would exist as they do today, period. The directional pad, shoulder buttons, integrated analog stick that actually fucking works, gyroscopes, touchscreen integration etc... you wouldn't have your cherished Dual Shock without Nintendo.
Imagine if instead of innovating, console manufacturers just cloned the NES controller or the Atari joystick generation after generation.
