This is a modification (hence the timer) based on the Japanese version of the game. Crash received many changes for that audience, all to make him look happier and cuter. Once specific change made to him was to never have his mouth wide open.
This is funny because he was more of a "crazy guy with some attitude" guy everywhere else.
