>for Ouya and Dreamcast

Why would anyone pledge to this? How did it even get funded? It looks like shit
>>
i know that this is a mere dumb bait thread, but this thing deserves all of the shitting it receives
to this day i am stumped about how anyone could've donated a single cent to this

How did Ouya even get funded?

Golly gee, a whole console for phone games.

Because publishers, who hold significant control and excercise considerable discretion can't make devs produce games well, let alone the kickstarter equivalent of an extremely high-risk bet (not investment, you have to get an actual return for that) with your best hope being getting something that others will pay for for absolutely no risk at all.

It is throwing yourself on a sword wielded by Phil Fish. It is worse than giving £10,000 to an acquaintance you've met in person once who told you he has a cool idea.

The best ideas and most successful projects on kickstarter have come from the drive of their developers, not an arbitrary volume of funds. They have all been subsequently successful beyond initial "investment" as well. I don't blame developers for using a tool to acquire funds. I blame every single one of you who looked at kickstarter and thought "this is a good way to get what I want" instead of laughing hysterically for a few years and waiting for someone to come up with a crowdfunding platform with actual investment returns.

Just kidding check my fucking seven.

there are no reasons for devs to actually deliver well. the thing kickstarter succeeded in was making donation easily accessible for NEETs and children who have neither the education or responsibility to reasonably invest. it's literally taking candy from children.

It's free.

Don't act like mass consumers know a fucking thing about investments. The point is to get niche things made, not to plan your retirement.
>>
>>336141287
That's the thing though. Precisely because they know nothing about investment, people are able to throw away money at ideas that have little to no obligation to deliver. Kickstarter only exists out of large ignorance. Imagine if businesses could gain funds just by begging, no equity, interest, or loans at stake. Shit's not supposed to work that way. The money's easy and free, provides no obligation for devs to perform well.

looks like shit. How the fuck did it get $150K let alone $150?

Can be good sometimes, but anyone who looked at that art, said "Looks good to me!" And then funded it deserves to be disappointed

Jesus Christ that was the most tough-guy thing I've read since the navy seal copypasta.

The people who funded this did see the campaign page right? Like holy shit those sprites are terrible. Putting those sprites in a 3D Environment made them even worse considering how there's barely any depth in their shading. Like holy shit the MC and the NPC Sprites look like garbage compared to the lackluster overworld sprites, that's saying something. I've seen fangames with more effort and professionalism done for free than what I've seen here. And it's not like that can't be done, The Dragon Quest Games on the DS did a similar thing except it didn't look like shit and the sprites they used weren't shit.

>Boasting about the lighting system
>In game pic makes it look like shit

Holy fucking shit, everyone who fucking had a hand in funding this game and stroking this retard's ego deserves their shit sandwich of a game.

The first problem was that developing for Ouya was a thing; in that the Ouya existed and people had dev kits for that abortion of a console.

I remember the threads when the rants first appeared. AVDG had some good advice.

Because for some people 10 dollars might not be much, but if 15k donates you get 150k easily. Add some whales that are serious about said genre and you might get even more. I mean look at that space sim game that's gotten +100 million from people paying 25k for ships.

And it's not that hard, I've gotten people to tell me they would pay me 10-15$ for my unfinished game on /v/, so I could probably get like 25-50k if I did a kickstarter. But if I ever did a kickstarter it would fail completely because I wouldn't have any goals apart from getting the game and I would have a demo.

How did the hype for OUYA get so huge in the first place? I saw nutters saying it would be able to run Skyrim at full graphics with 60FPS and would only cost $100 and be a console killer and all that.

How the fuck did anyone buy into such blatant lies in the first place?

>How the fuck did anyone buy into such blatant lies in the first place?
To be fair I don't think the Ouya developers ever said "it would be able to run Skyrim at full graphics with 60FPS". IIRC the just did a poll about which games people would like to see on Ouya and Skyrim got the first place.
>>
>>336144056
reddit is full of retards and people thought it would "fight big corporations stopping you from getting the games you want. Its a console FOR the people!"
>>
Kickstarter wasn't the problem here. The problem was a dev who wanted to reinvent the wheel and decided he should spend two years writing and polishing a custom engine in C++, including several GUI tools for level and particle editing for a closed-source engine only he will be using.

Just so he could put fancy lighting in a niche 2D RPG.

What also doesn't help is putting Dreamcast as a target platform. It's a "because I can" deal for him; it's only helped in marketing the thing (lol dreamcast game xddd!!) but from what I've heard there have been several technical difficulties in attempting to port the game to a platform that only two people care about getting the game for.

It's too late to turn back now. Your incompetence and not-invented-here syndrome has bankrupted you, and you shouldn't have asked for that much money if you can't handle yourself in the big boy world.
