Who started that meme that during previous generation a lot of people switched from consoles to PC gaming?
I literally don't know anybody who did that. Are those people just lying so more people will think "holy shit, I should switch too" or is it really true? Why was it happening then?

I switched in 2014 because nothing interesting was coming out on my 360 anymore and I sure as hell wasn't buying one of the new systems so I just bought a PC. It's good but I want a good reason to own a console again too.

Shitloads of people did for shit like 'le ebin skyrim mods' around 2010-2011 where the gap between consoles from like 2006 and the current pc hardware was massive.
You can see it just from the shift in the PC userbase

I went from 360 to PC, because I preferred stuff like Civ V, XCOM and other mouse keyboard preferred games. Also I got into emulating everything which was a fun blast from the past. XBONE and PS4 never offered a game I could live without.

I switched at the start of this gen / end of last gen because the first time I popped a disc into my system and it ran an installer and downloaded a patch and my HDD capacity dropped by 2GB at the end of it, I thought "fuck, why wouldn't I just hook a computer up to my TV at this point"
So that's what I started doing.
For a long time consoles held the charm of convenience for me; you stuck a game in, powered it on, and handed the controllers to your buddies on the couch next to you. Once consoles started installing and auto-updating and you could only play MP online, it was like what the hell is even the point.
