Yes, it's the 6th game in the series, but was made to be accessible so people who haven't played the series before were able to do so. You can play it first and then go back and play Trails in the Sky FC and SC if you want.

Haven't played Demon Gaze but I did finish Operation Abyss (by the same people) and have put ~60 hours in to DT2. Overall I liked OA better, the motivation(?) thing in DT2 that was never really explained but kept getting referenced really bugged me and I found a lot of classes and moves to be worthless. I still liked DT2 and plan to finish it one day and I'd certainly recommend it on the sale price but Demon Gaze would likely be a great bet and probably not too pricey used on Amazon either

I've played both the PS2 and PSP versions of them.
PSP versions are content identical, but some extra parts in them compared to the PS2 versions. The Garages where you build the ACs is slightly different too. I think the PSP ones let you have 5 different ACs while the PS2 version only lets you have 3 but I don't remember.
The controls are a bit different though since the PSP was missing L2 and R2 so it'll take a bit to get used to.
Last Raven ran at 60fps on PS2 with framerate drops, Last Raven on PSP runs a pretty solid 30.
Play them in release order since they get progressively harder and let you import your save data from the previous game.

I've heard the only downside to RR Vita is a lack of content that should be amended with the deluxe addition assuming that means added dlc and shit. Definitely worse. Has neat ideas, but falls flat on it's face. It tries to mix monster huntin' and third person shooting. At first it keeps them separate, but then it starts mixing the two together. Imagine fighting 2 bosses, but every 30 seconds 4 guys with assault rifles spawn that can kill you from full to dead in about a second. Shit gets obnoxious fast.
The bosses aren't too great either. There are very few of them, avoiding their attacks is simple. The game only gets difficult later on since the game buffs the hell of of their health and makes you kill 3 to 5 of them in a single mission. The only danger is the time limit, and the above mentioned goons gunning you down out of nowhere.

I just started playing it recently. My initial impressions are positive: I was concerned that it might be absurdly easy or really low on content, but it doesn't suffer from either of those problems (at least on Hard mode.) Enemies can flatten your HQ in seconds if you make a significant mistake.
The basic combat mechanics are simple, but the battles are fast-paced enough to require some quick decision making. Putting some thought into your weapon placement during the building phase pays off quite a bit as well, at least once you develop enough weapons to have some options.
The plot has been more or less non-existant so far, and the characters are all silly animu archetypes. I wasn't expecting much from the game in that regard, though.

Aegis of Earth is pretty good so far. I have a few hours into it. It struggles with "slow" UI and the odd "screen freeze." I suspect because it was made in Unity.
The core concepts in the game are pretty solid though. Through the story new buildings/weapons are unlocked as you gain ranks, and you have a team of "helpers" with special abilities that you can't work too hard because their stamina drains and you have to reward them/trade them out for r and r.
I bought it for something i could play for 10-15mins on and off, and it fits that mould. A round of enemy waves and the odd boss lasts maybe 5-10mins.
It's not a "great" game, but it's decent for what it is.

Don't stress offering limits too much. You should rarely run out, especially with weapons, assuming you don't waste them.
You can EASILY get offerings back in longer battles via save/sac/fate on goons (depending on faction) or using landmarks throughout the map, shown with minds eye. These can also just give a weapon, armor, etc to you.

Nah man, starting around mid to late game you have to start grinding for certain offerings. Specifically ones that don't take a year and a half to kill a boss. My choice was Throw stuff and to get those you'd have to kill bosses that took upwards of ten to fifteen minutes to kill before you got their drops so you could kill other bosses, etc. That's not even going into what you need for some of the DLC and middle to end pacts.
It's the worst with sigils though, especially in the original. You need dozens of ones that drop from only sacrificing your party members, except Lacrima is such a pain to actually get, and getting a ++ is basically asking God to have mercy on you after four hours of trying.

I use a 1/99 build and ironically Wyvern's soul helps with the dodging on a shitload of bosses including himself. I just got really good at shadow dodging like a madman while I murdered him with arrows till I got a stun.
He's one of the harder bosses in the game to get good at dodging though so I understand your pain. Just keep at it and as soon as you see his ass come at you, dodge.
The only mission I still have not been able to finish is the damn double Illecebra one...I keep seeing cheese strats for it involving mines and mortar souls but I cant ever get those to work.

Sure it was. Certainly in comparison anyway. I'm pretty sure my paladin just tanked everything once I figured out the trick to winning whereas things would actually kill me in DT2 occasionally.
DT2 has a lot of other things going for it like the class system and post-game and such too.

I bought a ps3 and vita not long ago(2 years~). Overall I think I've played more on the PS3. But it's had longer to build up the library. With the vita you'll still have some new games coming out. Some ps3 ports aren't getting localized like star ocean. If your aim is to play jrpgs, then the ps3 still wins out. But sure, if the games you want are also on the vita, it would make a fine alternative. Some games look or run worse on the vita but it's not terrible.
Playing SSD. Had a Grim save file a year back at lvl.88 but it never got very far. Neutral levels way fast.

SoSC is supposed to be too hard, and Ray Gigant is supposed to be too easy. It seems like EXP can't find a happy medium when balancing their games.
That being said, if you want a good beginner DRPG to ease you in, get Demon Gaze. It does a good job easing you into the genre, without sacrificing difficulty. Especially since DRPGs are a hard as nails genre to begin with.
