Asgore's own kindness is his weakness, and it plays as a foil to the player's kindness, which he insists on making his strength. This is why the fanbase lambast him so; He's a durable, but weak man. Like every other character, you have something to teach him, and in the pacifist ending, you and Toriel teach him to stick to his convictions: It was not wrong to chose peace, but he needed to chose it unconditionally, not pretend he had the high ground just because he felt bad that he was murdering kids.
Amusingly, this interaction demonstrates something a lot of us already knew: Toriel is rather angry and bloodthirsty under her exterior. She wants blood for her fallen sons and daughters.

Honestly, I have to say Mega Man Zero 4's finale.
I didn't like Weil much as an antagonist, he's way too cliche doomsday conquering villain despite how clever he was about it all, but seeing Zero take the bastard with him after two entire series of surviving death time and time again, and after everyone that's died over two hundred years of conflict or so, well, it's still one of the strongest moments for me. Too bad ZX just sort of shits all over it.

Beside Digital Devil Saga 2 whereliterally everybody dies near the endI don't generally get emotional about games. Of course there are always a few exceptions. The quickest one though being from OneShot (a free downloadable game) which can be completed in one sitting. I think what got me is that the protag is written to not be a hero but some random kid that is forced to put up with that shit because the game demanded it. He was as clueless about the world as you are.
