Gameplay is pretty solid, but it still ruined the exploration that defines a metroid game. That and they gave Samus' every day mission detailed story.

Nonsensical story, linear design, boring environments, no new power ups or creative anything in general. Being stuck to the sideways wii remote only meant awkward controls and 8-way movement. Exploration was boiled down to trying to find your way to glowing orbs in each (corridor-like) room.

The entire post final boss segment is made into a gruelling ordeal because a single door is closed for no reason. That's just a peeve of mine.

Without even mentioning the story, Metroid Other M commits the cardinal sin of locking doors behind you purely to force you to advance the plot as soon as possible.
In every other Metroid game, on your first run through a zone, when you see a place you can't reach, you make a note of it and come back when you have a major item that might help.
Here, you are confined to a single zone until Adam tells you to move on. You can't backtrack at your leisure, which means a lot of minor items can be missed. You don't get another chance to collect them until the post-game.
When the world opens up in the post-game, there's a sense of emptiness as you realize how generic and repetitive the environments are, like a movie set after the cast and crew have gone home.
Because that's what Metroid Other M is: a movie that occasionally requires you to press buttons.

Gameplay could be considered passable, but really all you did in most fights was mash D-Pad to dodge everything.

This would be a nice relationship for Samus and Adam to have. The seemingly unstoppable force of good that is Samus getting help from the seemingly immovable wall of the law that is Adam.

A Batman and Jim Gordon kinda thing.
