I've sunk hours into this game.

Is great, needs some balance and bug fixes but yeah.

Underrail is overlooked a lot.
>>
>>336042890
Me and my friends played it a few times.

So the first player starts out as the warrior, and everyone else plays pixel versions of monsters with different powers and try to kill the warrior. The longer the warrior stays alive the better equip he will be to fight the final boss which all have a different part the other players can control.

We only beat the "boss" once, it was tough.
>>
>>336042890
I thought it was cool, voice didn't bother me but to each their own I guess.....It's kinda simple,at the one person starts as the human, and up to three other players (or AI) start as ghosts, most rooms have little pentagrams on the floor that the ghosts can activate to turn into a monster, they then have to try to kill the human. Whoever kills the human becomes the human, and the point is to try and get to the final boss to kill it and escape...There's only two final bosses at the moment, but all of the ghosts can control an individual part of the boss...So for example, the big fat one eyed thing at the end of the trailer, one person can control the mouth which shoots out a big ass laser, and each of the arms can be controlled.

this game is really weird. Like it feel like it wants to be a shooter or a stealth game, but doesn't give you quite enough to do either. Honestly didn't have enough fun with it, especially when you had to restart long levels.

Infinifactory. Amazing game, definitely in my top 3 2015 games. People probably think it's a Minecraft ripoff or something like that, while it has a completely different goal. It's a very smart and challenging logic puzzle game, like SpaceChem and TIS-100 (same developer).

What game
>>
>>336045445
I played them, anyway, they're mentioned as inspiration because there is backtracking through the various areas and some exploration to find secret places, but other that this, it's not really like those 2...
If i were to compare it something else, I'd say Wonder Boy III The Dragon's Trap(minus the transformations), very simple "rpg-ish" features like HP and MP and basic and very limited equipment to increase the stats(with interesting feats like specific armor/weapon/magic combinations giving extra abilities), very platform-like levels, simple and toonish looking enemies, and a very basic plot.

To me this is too much of a clone, having really no originality in its artistic style.
Although the genre(ultra fast racing) never had a wide range of games, each of them was quite unique in its style, changing the enviroment and setting, the color scheme, the vehicles and the technolgy they used(anti-g space-like speed cars, regular spaceships, fast gyroscope bikes, magnetic tripods, and so on), but this one directly rips off wipeout, not only in the controls and how they feel while driving, but also with identycal styled hud, vehicles, tracks, settings, color scheme, and even the symbols used for the platforms that give the powerups.

I am a sucker for puzzle platformers, and I 'll be the first to admit that, there are a lot of same-y for the last 4-5 years. But this one, plays with your perception of space. Such a charming little game. I never really use this word for a game but this, is one of the few ones.

Blood Alloy: Reborn. Was intended to be a metroidvania but it became essentially a "wave arena" shooter. The movement, animations and camera, make a frantic experience. But honestly it gets me bored after a while. I have the feeling it tries to capture the Vanquish essence in 2D and i love it for that.

I really like puzzle platformers and puzzle games in general, I'll give it a try.
Any other nice suggestion in the genre?

I would also like to play some puzzle playformer adventure(even single screen levels games like Escape Goat would be cool), be it in 2d or 3d, that deals with time manipulation and/or impossible space actually integrated in the gameplay as part of the puzzle solving mechanic.

As for the impossible space, you might like Antichamber, maybe you ll like Papo and Yo. I try everyday to find these kind of games but there are very few.

As for time manipulation there is Braid, Blades of Time have a lovely time mechanic but it's a hack n slash game, There is also Super Time Force, but again, it's combat based

I love all the games I listed cause i also love time manipulation, weird space games, maybe i ll remember something later, dunno.

>Braid
Boring, and it's limited to rewinding time.
>Super Time Force
Might give it a try, thanks
I guess i should have been more specific about the time manipulation thing, as i meant more like a time traveling concept, where you end up helping yourself with time clones(like in Tinking With Time Machine or in a few levels of Another Perspective) and/or having to go in a past version of the place you're in to alter it so that when you're back in your time you can go on(i.e. in the present a bridge has collapsed, so you go back to before it did, put more supports under it, and when you're back to the present the bridge is still there thanks to those supports).

Indeed. But thats part of its charm. I loved Spelunky and while there are tons of roguelike indie games, there wasn't one similar to it and no one that was better than Spelunky itself.

I highly recommend it. It has charm and the music reminds me Chrono Trigger's
>>
>>336067120
>Spelunky
>roguelike

Why are redditors so obsessed with referring to every game with procedural generation as a roguelike

Project Zomboid is almost a carbon copy of Cataclysm: DDA but no one calls it a roguelike

Nobody calls Resident Rvil a puzzle game even though it has puzzles. Call of Duty doesn't have an RPG tag even though you can gain experience and level up.

Quit polluting my favorite genre with your fake shit
>>
>>336068814
Some genres evolve. Most RPG doesn't use a turn system, platformers changed from 2D to 3D, fighting games now have combos.

Of course traditional games are still being made.

Get used to it.
>>
>>336068814
Why are there so many people on 4chan who just use the term "redditor" to describe something they don't like?
>>

>>
>>336070002

>>
>>336041685
Isn't this basically a Spelunky RPG?

I've had this on my wishlist for almost a year now. I'm waiting for it to leave Early Access, I can't be assed to buy anything in EA.
>>
>>336069384
But roguelike is a very specific subgenre of RPGs. If you take anything away from it, it becomes something different.

The tile based graphics have evolved towards sprites and isometric projection, sure. There's nothing wrong with that. It doesn't add or subtract anything from the game. It's the logical conclusion to the ascii of the past.

You can't just take one or two mechanics from the genre, and still call it a roguelike. If you take the procedural generation, you're just making the game a dungeon crawler.

Permadeath sure as shit doesn't make a game a roguelike.

If you keep everything and make the game real time, it's no different than a regular RPG.

Face it, you were probably introduced to 'roguelikes' through FTL or Binding of Isaac, and now after learning you were misled, you're too stubborn to accept it, and you'd rather derivate and destroy an entire genre by jumping on the bandwagon and shouting buzzwords.
>>
>>336070374
Yes, there are classes, talent trees, you level up, get gear and magic, more bosses and the enemies are harder to compensate your abilities.

Each class plays differently and since you can only get one experience level per level you are forced to pick a build.

It's fully playable and the multiplayer online works, but it's still incomplete. the good thing is that it's updated every two weeks at minimum, (the development team is very active), and there is a roadmap.
>>

Pic related was my first roguelike, along with DOOM roguelike version.

Tbh_ I think you are right, roguelike-likes or roguelites are a better term. But I think you are autistic. There are a lot of times and a lot of examples where a genre expands and reaches new possibilities. From Mario kart to Skyrim, all games are different and yet we need to classify them. It's like fucking music, a band can be classified as progressive contemporary metal or just simply as rock.

Metroidvania is considered a genre now, even if is action platforming with rpg. Mario Kart and Gran Turismo are in the same damn genre. Just deal with it.

I don't think much of anything has changed in the past month, but they're working on an update that should be out soonish. The big change is going to bethe narrative,it's still not going to have a full fledged story or anything, but the start of every round is going to have randomized introductions from the voice over guy in the trailers, and then a short fight where everyone is a human and you have to kill each other, last guy standing gets to continue on as human and the others are ghosts...I think they're gonna add a few monsters and probably some items too, they seem to with every update.

I have no innate hatred for "pixelshit", but there are a few things about this brand of "pixelshit" that irk me:
- Pixels don't respect the grid, so you have rotated pixels like those shown in the pic
- It's so low-res that it's hard to make out individual elements in the scene at times, i.e. characters and enemies blending into the background (the lack of strong color contrast doesn't help)
- Pixel-thin limbs
Only benefit to these negatives is they allowed for some really fluid animation to be done by the presumably small team.

It's being developed by a team called Powerhoof, there's only 2 guys in the team so yeah,it's kinda small.

if this had been on the SNES it would have been regarded as a hidden gem

people write it off because it looks derivative, and most of the steam reviews say it's 'too hard' but if you do write it off, you're missing on some of the best platformer level design in years, topped off with an insanely technical movement system (think cave story + several types of gun-based propulsion + wall jumps + placeable teleporters).

I got it for less than a dollar during a steam sale and completed it in a couple hours with a few breaks. No complaints here.

the soundtrack is the fucking tits

Valdis story was pretty fun. Basically a metroidvania that focused on combat. The characters you can play are fairly varied enough, and it's one of the few kickstarts I backed
