Pirate's Curse is great. I didn't really like Risky's Revenge and never played the GBC one.

Pirate's Curse is good.
Risky's Revenge is hit or miss.
Original is enjoyable if you can look past some of it's flaws, such as the difficulty spike after the intro level.

When I first played shantae on gameboy I thought it was a girl's game for girls and I kept it secret because of all the female characters and enemies. Game was fucking food though.
