Either it is already cinematic enough and story driven that trying to retell it in a shorter format doesn't work and is redundant at best or there's not enough story there to mine to create a worthwhile movie. If I'm to be honest, this wasn't a great choice for a video game movie. Well, there aren't any great choices.
Ratchet and Clank always had horrible writing, unfunny 'humor', and super cliche characters. What made the games good was they were fun, but the filler in the middle was always embarrassing if you would take them out of the context of a game.
It always was exactly the sort of shit that people could use as strong evidence of how video games have a much lower standard of writing compared to other mediums.
Seriously guys, the quality of the dialogue in the Ratchet and Clank games always reminded me of what you got in straight-to-video cartoons produced by penniless amateurs.
My 10 years old nephew loved it. So I guess it's just for kids?

Film was respected as an art form nearly from the beginning, particularly French and German films. Certainly by the time Ebert became a critic, film had established and well respected medium for quite some time.
Video games are trash for children and manchildren. Even the "good" ones manchildren always bring up to validate their arrested development are derivative, shallow apings of storytelling and cinematography film had already accomplished decades before.
