This game looks amazing, and a possible contender for best 4x game ever. Even better then Master of Orion.

Thoughts?

I pre-ordered. First time in eight years I've done that. Paradox probably won't outright fuck us over so much as release a shitload of DLC. Also it's a grand strategy game not an RTS.
>>
>>336024728
It's not out yet, too soon to judge
>>
>>336025039

I have to agree. Paradox is one of those game developers that has yet to fuck with its fan base. In fact, they seem to go overboard to stay engaged with said fan base.

I preordered as well, even though I swore I never would again after my experience with Rome II.
>>
>>336025406
>Rome 2

How does one fuck up release so badly
>>
>>336025723

Creative Assembly found a way. I've heard they've "fixed" it since, but I don't even want to justify the space on my hard drive it would take to find out. Its a permanently grayed out reminder on my Steam account to what I could have spent 60 bucks on.
>>
Like all Paradox games, I have to wait for at least 6 months to play it because I don't want to beta test this shit for them on release.

Still, I hope it's good.

All those bullshit mechanics they keep shoveling in their games are a major fuck with a rusty spoon.

The corruption/regions/states bullshit they added to EU IV was the last straw.

Are there any known crazy new mechanics? I heard you can do slavery and genocide as legitimate mechanics.

Reddit's first Grand Strat game. Somehow CK2 was too complex.

They're deliberately not going into detail on a fair few things in their streams just to tease people, but yes, you can purge and genocide other aliens.

From what I can gather there is nothing like interspecies relationships in the game although one of the focii you can select for your government (stuff like whether or not your government is spiritualistic or scientific, militaristic or peaceful) is borderline xenophilic.
The combinations of focii will allow you to select a number of government types (Fanatical Purists, Peaceful Traders, Ruthless Capitalists etc).

I doubt xeno-on-xeno love is in the base game but there'll be mods I'm sure.

It did, though. EL's diplomacy is pitifully simplistic and it's diplo victory is fucking abominable. AoW3 at least has the decency to include racial and alignment-based modifiers, as well as having victory conditions more involved than "talk to people a lot." Even Rising Tide managed to implement a better version of their resource system.
>>
>>336025406
What paradox game is the first one you've played?
If we go back to the days of HoI2 and Vicky1 to today there hasn't been any improvement, they topped out with HoI3 and instead of fixing and improving upon the issues of micromanagement and clutter they've decided to continually dumb it down.

In AoW3 the only thing Diplomacy was for is asking for their surrender.

Endless space was the way IMO. Diplomatic and Economic victories are obnoxious even under lower difficulty settings compared to expansion and conquest. And utterly impossible under higher difficulties because your entire economic and scientific output is tied up building an endless array of warships to stave off the horde.

>>

>>
>>336030817
And you still stick to your delusion that paradox hasn't shat all over its fanbase?
They love and care about their reddit fans and other uninspired faggots who gladly swallow tons of dlc, the old fanbase who played hoi2 and 3 and to a degree the autists who only play vicky 2 are being ignored completely by paradox.
First CK2, which has some reedemable features, then EU4 which is an outright downgrade from EU3
HoI4 will be a disaster unless it's very moddable which I assume it wont be.

Unless there have been radical changes since late March, those "personality" quirks are practically nonexistent, as is interaction with the AI in general. I played a 200 turn game and hardly ever spoke to my southern neighbor beyond him continually opening and closing his borders.

AoW3 has racial diplomacy, which can have a major impact on how you actually manage captured cities, even causing enemy cities to turn if you have a good enough relationship with their race. You can also create vassals, forge alliances, and do practically everything you can in Endless Legend.
>>
>>336025039
There is nothing wrong with DLC for paradox titles. They stagger them through the year, so you come back to the game after a break. Spend a couple bucks, get a new experience. It's one of the best DLC plans in the industry.

It's like ice cream. The original game is plain vanilla, some people like it best. But then you can get sprinkles and butterscotch toppings and each time it's like a completely new experience.

Glad you preorderd though, I preordered as well. It's going to be a fun, good game. I hope they do lots of good, fun DLC.

I think states would've been fine, IFF it had been planned since the start of the game. States themselves help to contribute to focused expansion rather than opportunistic taking of provinces that are weak, which has led to faster blobbing.

Corruption I don't really mind, but I don't care for the estate system very much at all. It like they tried to add an interface between you and provincial governments, but instead estates don't really help you manage anything and instead constantly annoy you with demands in exchange for minor buffs. Also, I don't really like the generic nobility/church/merchants stance, I'd rather see estates be how in sync the local state government is with the central government, with each state government being dynamically generated with specific goals in mind for their local region.
>>
>>336028798
My only real problem with Endless Space is how impersonal everything seems. The discovery of technologies that would cause massive shifts in the society of your empire are only represented in mundane bonuses to industry and wealth. Unlike older civs where unlocking technology enables things like railroads which completely changes the game, or artillery or an air force, etc, Endless Space stays pretty much a linear increase in industry, science, and military, with no real spikes or changes to the fundamentals.
>>
>>336033560

Prussia has good traditions but I like the order's more. Powerful and cheap units, +1 papal influence which alongside the religious national idea tree means you will always have full curia. Its kind of ridiculous how much better catholic with all the curia bonuses is than anything you can get from any of the other religions.

BTW I haven't played EU4 in a long while, have they changed the french wars of religion national disaster at all? Because I played hundreds of games and I think I saw an ai trigger it once.

Bonuses and maluses aren't the focus of ethos, gameplay is. What government you can take depends on your stance on collectivist/individualist dichotomy and both of those things heavily affect diplomacy.
Also individualist pops will more likely drift away from your ethos and form factions.

Not really, pacifists are designed to form alliances and federations, uplift pre-ftl species to form protectorates and conquer other empires by opening borders and flooding their planets with your pops.
'Army damage' only applies to ground troops, not spaceships, so who cares. You can bolster ground troops with attachments and buildings too.
As for the war tolerance thing - come on now, they're basically hippies after all.

Also most of those bonuses/maluses are not really that big and you can offset them by researching technologies.

Not him but that free update that popped up alongside Conclave and introduced thread and defensive pacts totally threw the game upside-down.

As much as I agree you in general terms, in game terms it's not possible, sadly.
Like the colonization I mentioned - no matter the technology you won't be able to settle all habitable planets to 100% capacity with your main species, that's where xenos come in because they have different sweetspot than your people do.
Also you can min-max different trait sets xenos have and put industrious pops into factories, agrarian pops into farms and thrifty pops into power plants for your maximum min-max pleasure, you can't really do that with only one race.

Thanks to society research though, you can research bio-engineering and fully embrace transhumanism by upgrading your pops with additional traits.

As for your question though, you can set-up open borders with individual ai empires and resettle pops yourself (unless you're individualistic) so you have some degree of control over that; with slaves you can do whatever you want without asking anyone for permission anyway..

Believe it or not, inter-species relationships is very common in the wild.
A lot of species are very compatible with each other.
Likewise, on the other side, some animals in the same species aren't even compatible with others within.
"Species" in general is a very blurry line that tends to end at visuals as you go deeper.

There are some obvious exceptions when the genetics get wildly far away from each other.
You won't get a human impregnating a lizard, for example.
Might need to wait a few thousand years when the global temperature explodes again so lizards can grow huge again.
>you still won't get to ride a T-rex because you will be dust distributed amongst several million insects.

DNA itself seems to be the lowest-energy state for self-organizing systems, as well as the most stable.
We have created higher-energy DNA strands, even ones with metal backbones instead of sugars.
So we know that it could take on different forms given the right conditions.

ok anon, time for a history lesson

The Teutons were invited into the Baltic in 1220s region by a Polish ruler to help him fight against the raids made by pagan Pruthenians (Old Prussians). They almost immediately betrayed their hosts and started to raid Poland also, all while genociding Pruthenians and settling in German colonists.

In 1240s Poland was invaded by the Mongols which threw Poland into a state of collapse and perpetual civil war. Soon Poland splintered into dozens tiny duchies. The Teutons went lenghts to ensure it stays that way. However, Teutons' encroachment was one of the main reason why Poland eventually reunited. Shortly before Poland had one king again, the Teutons made their big push and seized Polish Pomerania in 1308. They massacred the city of Gdansk (renaming it Danzig and settling in Germans), severing Poland from the sea coast. Later on, they made an attempt to conquer central Poland, something that Poland beat away only with great difficulty (1333).

The next two centuries is a state of almost permanent war, pierced by longer or shorter truces and temporary peace. Poland consolidated and started to gain the upper hand, trashing the Teutons at Grunwald in 1410. In 1466 Poland scored the decisive victory, regaining her coast and turning the remnants of the Teutons into Polish vassals. The Teutons remained the hotbed of intrigue against Poland and after several rebelions Polish king reconstructed them in 1525 as secular duchy of Prussia with his nephew as the first duke. That was the beginning of Prussia that was later to reunite Germany.
