I think it's a good idea to make a list of games you want to play. That's what I did with the PS4, write out a list of games you want to play and if you think it's justified after a while then buy it and you wont feel like you wasted money.

Has an excellent backward library with the e-shop.
All in all, I think the WiiU has been a pretty brilliant console for Nintendo fans.

I only just recently got to finish Punch Out Wii on my Wii U (I had been delaying playing this since forever) and it was a blast.
Anyway, I can see coming before march 2017 and if I managed to go through all of this, there is Still Star fox Zero I can purchase.

I've played several hundred hours of smash with my friends, and dumped another couple hundred into mh3u.

Mayro Kert being fun and Harem Warriors being my first ever muso.
I got a good amount of playtime out of the Metroid and Luigi's Mansion part of Nintendoland.
Nes Remix was pretty sweet.
Shovel Knight is pretty gud.
I need to pick up SF:Z, Frozen Dong and Super Mario Maker.
Smash was a disappointment in how little I played it, but then again I couldn't get back into Melee when I went back to that before Smash 4 released either, so that isn't something to hold against the Wii U. The E3 tournament was pretty sweet though.
ZombiU was trash, and the console bundle was only worth the money since I got a discount on a pro controller and Nintendoland due to false advertising on the shop's part.
Overall I am happy with the console just based on that, and I also have a ton games for it that I haven't played yet.

I bought it for 3U HD, got 700 hours out of it, and everything else is a bonus, though it doesn't have much.
Smash also got a few hundred hours, because I have friends over.
I only justify it because I got the black Friday bundle with splatoon and smash, and $280 for two $60 games and the system I felt ok with that, if I had bought any other bundle I'd probably regret my purchase though.

I didn't bother considering it until there were enough games out I was interested in, and the Wii backwards compatibility helps as well since there were some Wii games I missed out on. The only thing I don't really like that comes to mind is that it's got around a year or two of life left at best. Regardless, I can't say i regret it; I went in knowing exactly what to expect and managed to play the games I was interested in and got quite a few more games that I ended up enjoying on top of that.

I won one in a $10 /play crane machine in Vegas.
It was one of the shittier prizes in there, but my choices were that or an iPod or beats headphones.
There was a MacBook Pro in there too but it wasn't an option (would have sold that fucker for nearly msrp).
So I've got approximately $150 in my Wii U for a controller and some virtual console games and smash bro's/Mario kart.
Was it worth $150 plus the $10 I gambled to get it?
Yes.
Would I pay full $300 for one today if I didn't have one?
Possibly.
I know my personal top dollar investment into this system would probably end around $500, fully utilizing all the features/games I'm interested in, and I've payed $500 for less content (two fightsticks and street fighter V) and still felt like my purchase was fair.
Now if I had spent $3000 on a gaming PC (and I'm about to drop $1000 as an initial investment) and not played it at all, then I would reconsider.
TLDR, bottom line, there's a price/quality threshold much higher than what the Wii u falls at that would make me reconsider a vidya purchase.

Instead of "open world" select a star and go for it, its linear from A to B.
Sadly, every game got more and more linear.
64 was open, choose a star, you could go for another one even if it wasnt the mission you selected.
Sunshine cut that off, you could only go for shinesprites that you selected the mission for.
Galaxy narrowed it down by making you go from planet A to B to C to star, giving you no freedom to explore.
3D land/world went straight back to the World 1-1 formula and is a straight line from A to B.

Twitch is not a reliable way to measure the number of people playing a game. Some games are easier to Stream, PC and PS4 are much easier to stream from than Wii U in particular, and some games are more popular with viewers so they encourage streamers to focus on them.
