On arena-tournament I ended up playing only healers because that gave me shortest possible queue time for soloq arenas.
In dota I wanted to focus on a single position, so I picked support because there was always room for a support. On average, once every 200 games I had to play some other position.
I also like support/healer position as much as any other position, so I don't really mind.
I guess the cause is that I'm somewhat submissive.

In older games I played mages because melee combat wasn't engaging back in the day and ranged dps was more practical
Now we're at an age where action mmos are more prevalent so I tend to roll monk since they usually have fun combo driven combat, but can sometimes also heal themselves in an increasingly anti-social mmos community
I think it is partially. It just seems like I just have more fun play a certain archetype in any given game and other I know have the same kind of feeling.
But surely there is more to it than that. Maybe someone chose a certain character when they first started playing games and got attached to that kind of archetype so the character defines the personality and not the other way around.

You are more likely than not going to see a WAR who runs around as the only tank in a light party situation with Deliverance (the off tank stance mentioned above) up, never changing into deliverance, and bragging about how hard their fell cleaves hit.

I know your struggle, I was there too. I was lucky to find the winning pattern for last patch which granted me something like 70% winrate up until 5k.
I wish I could give you advice but I don't know anything about the new patch. Things I was doing wrong before going up was, I was picking wrong heroes, I wasn't completely aware of when my team was supposed to win at and I wasn't building the best items.

In every game that has the option I play ranger/hunter. If it's a modern setting, I play sniper. I just like being ranged.
Ultimately, my preference is for Bard but there aren't many games with bard as a class. I think the typical bard personality fits my actual personality okay.
In XI I loved BRD because it was a great combination of buffing/debuff with opportunities to also heal, serve as dps, and pull/kite.

Not really, since personality is much harder to change than the class someone usually plays. As a kid, I mostly played rogue/assassin roles. Now I gravitate toward offensive support/hexer if they exist (i.e. never ever) or wizard roles otherwise. My personality is the same, though.

But kids in real life can and do wield weapons and wear armor. It's certainly not common, but it has and can happen. I mean, royalty use to be trained in combat from childhood, and I'm sure if kids use to marry at like 13, then they probably fought around then too. You have to give kids some credit, for as much as we baby them, in the right environment, they can adapt pretty well to the needs of survival. You might say a kid can't use an adult sized twohander and sure, but they can make kid sized ones. People don't just magically become warrior capable when they reach a certain age.
And aside all that, they can still learn magic or archery or something. Point is, it's definitely not impossible or even a stretch of the imagination and way more reasonable to see than fucking dragons.
