A mix of fictional designs that makes sense from a mechanical standpoint, updated versions of what we have now as well as stuff we have right now since guns don't just vanish into thin air when they become old. Think Ghost in the Shell. Ballistic weapons are here to stay and I doubt that we'll even see caseless ammo becoming the norm ever, but who the hell knows.

Something we could develop and field with even today's technology, hell we had this stuff back in the 1930s, is exploding ammunition for small arms. Why we don't at this point in time I can only attribute to the fact that explosives are generally more restricted than regular firearms cartridges (restricting the civilian market) and that it would be a PR nightmare for an official military force to use it. All that could change rather quickly given a major war or two, especially if you introduce augmented people to the equation.

how much damage would ballistic firearms realistically do to robots? in most video games robots just have health bars but does not account to actual sustained damage.

i think EMP would fit in well with Cyberpunk. So would poison, gas, and viruses.
