29, everyone always thinks that the "golden age" of videogames was when they were children. The majority opinion of /v/ on when this was has steadily increased as the years go by, it's not uncommon for people to claim 2006-2008 as the golden age now. Any time someone makes a thread like this you can instantly guess that the OP was between the age of 10-13 during the time they mention.

"Gaming" is a child's hobby and so naturally you aren't going to find it as fun when you're an adult. Not to mention the power of the nostalgia goggles.
>>

God damn what a shitty way to grow up.
>>
>>335988656
Assuming you were likely ten during that generation, you would now be 25. The age where you start to face the reprocussions of the choices of your young adult life. Time stops moving fastly, you start dedicating your life to the grind of a secure job and attempt to find something more in life. It's normal to be scared by this and wish for your original Xbox, a copy of Brute Force and some of your neighborhood friends to devour a large cheese-stuff crust pizza. Just know that "objectively" this era of gaming will be someone's nostalgia play in a decade. You are not original.

I can understand the nostalgia of the late 90s/early 00s to a certain extent. But I'm just said about certain aspects that are gone.

>Gaming Magazines are shit
>Everyone can just look everything up online about a new game, the day it comes out.
>Modern consoles have 12 games each, because there aren't as many development studios anymore.
>You can't go to Blockbuster on a friday night to rent games and movies for the weekend
>Everyone just plays MOBAs at home, and nobody wants to leave there house to play video games.
>the MMO Cash Cow has been milked until it's guts came out

There are certain things that are great about modern gaming, but I just wish these things never changed...

The Fatbox may have no had the huge library of the Ps2. However, the Ps2 was loaded with shovel ware. The percentage of games that were actually good was very low in comparison to the Fatbox. The Xbox library was, on average, much higher quality. On top of that it did online gameing FUCKING LEAGUES better than the Ps2. Like, this isn't even debatable. I'd argue the controller was also way better but that's objective.

I can think of 2 things
Multiplayer: even console games have switched to dedicated servers for everything (except for a few retarded EA games)

Digital downloads: eliminating game scarcity, easy to buy old games. Will probably kill those fun midnight launches. Waiting in line outside a store is very fun, and I'm sure retails workers love coming in for late night PARTY shifts, but unfortunately digital has killed this dankness.

>>335992215
Seconding the online infrastructure---that would fundamentally change how consoles would proceed in the following years. The quality of games on the other hand---objective. Xbox had it's fair share of exclusive stinkers (Azurik, Black Stone, Bruce Lee, Brute Force, Dino Crisis 3, Kabuki Warriors, NFL Fever series, Tao Feng). PS2's library was way larger, but by percentage I'd either go with they were similar in quality or slight PS2 advantage. Never cared for the DualShock design but I'll take that over the Duke OG Xbox controller. And I have big hands too.

>yes, I did go to the Xbox Exclusive wiki page because I blanked on some of the stinkers.

I still remember the day I turned this little bastard on, just the powering up screen blew my fucking mind. The things I would do to recapture just a fraction of that childlike wonder.

The years immediately after the iron curtain came down were pretty awful, the wall came down but that doesn't automatically undo all the damage caused over the last 40 years, many of these countries are still recovering almost 30 years later. Things may have looked good for eastern Europeans in the 90s but they were still pretty bad at the time.

Europe as whole also didn't experience the sort of prosperity that America did in the 1990s, I grew up in Britain in the 1990s and we were suffering through a pretty nasty recession at the time, America had a comparatively tiny recession at the turn of the decade and then experienced massive growth for the next 10 years.

Yea that's true. America did enter an era of massive expansion and economic growth and largest economic surplus in history during the Clinton Administration. Took Bush less than 4 years to fuck that up. The history of Europe during the 90s is unknown to 99% of Americans. People here were very blinded by our own prosperity.

At some point the internet renamed "self-diagnosed Assperger's" to "autism".
