seriously it was the most fun I ever had on a console. and when my computer died on me and I wanted to play games, I mistakenly bought a vita and every once in a while it comes off the shelf to play a few PS now games, but that's it.
It's a shame too because that digimon game came out and that was my shit for years. Yet the Vita has disappointed me so much.
It failed because it started a death spiral almost immediately after launch. It was too expensive for both the consumer and developers, so nobody made games for it. Nobody made games for it, so nobody bought it.

The vita had potential, but sony squandered it. They don't make games for it anymore, and all that's left are third party publishers that make games that don't appeal to a wide audience. Then you have the memory cards which are astronomically through the roof in price, and they're proprietary, meaning that you have to buy the ones that sony has made specifically for the vita. Which then leads to hacking and CFW. Progress has been made on hacking the vita, and getting CFW on it, but it's still no where near the level of the PSP. Probably won't be for a long time. It has a lot of cool things going for it, but every step sony took forward with it, they took two steps back.

It's doing well in Japan and we're getting English versions of games because they can be released digitally with ease. Shame it just became a remote play device in the west.
Overly ambitious marketing and aspirations from Sony, console-like gaming on the go was nothing that had never been done before and it failed as a driving force because handheld games thrive as simpler devices. Also expectations which ultimately translated to lack of consumer confidence. The PSP unfortunately became synonymous with piracy, it's a huge reason why I believe Square still doesn't support the device properly combined with them having to answer to share holders.
However, it is a great piece of technology regardless, it has an excellent catalogue of games and a lot of support from third party, there's games coming out for it continuously and I can't even keep up.

That was certainly not true when the Vita launched, and that mentality only gained any real ground around early 2014, when Sony was just about to stop trying with the AAA games and Japanese sales and support started to find some degree of traction. Prior to that, people were either disappointed by the AAA efforts (Resistance and CoD) or they just weren't doing good enough numbers (Killzone Mercenary, Unit 13, Tearaway). Lastly we do(did) have a somewhat functional exploit (rejuvenate) with some pretty massive downsides. You had to be tethered to a computer to play unsigned code and it requires a lower firmware version. Also it could not be used for piracy in its current state.

Vita version basically is the PC version, and the 3DS version runs at 30FPS compared to the Vita's 60, let alone the extra levels, enemies, and it being bundled with the SFC original. I have a PSP and a bunch of games on it (most of my favs on UMDs, unfortunately) and I was ready to buy vita on release, but then:

I got gifted one as a birthday present a year ago. In my experience, the hardware itself is sublime (smooth UI and great battery life). However, looking through the online store for titles I basically only saw about 6 games I would have wanted to play, including some "weeb" (like P4G).

Idort here. If it weren't for pokemon (and lately, FE) I wouldn't mess with my 3DS that much. I've never found monster hunter fun, the combat is just too slow
Conversely I picked up Soul Sacrifice when I got my Vita and the fast combat in that game is everything I wish Monhun was and then some. Fucking fantastic game with an equally fantastic expansion in Delta. I later picked up Toukiden and it also manages to keep me interested when monhun could not.
Other notable titles include Dragon's Crown, Tearaway, Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, P4G (fight me), Danganronpa, etc....it's just more fun somehow.
