That's actually what I'm about to do. I haven't finished NG yet since I wanted to do the DLC first. I just thought it was particularly difficult being full of hunters and new enemies, aside from the NG+ aspect, but if most of the difficulty comes from NG+ I should be fine, I guess.

Ludwig, Orphan of Kos and (maybe) Laurence are the hardest bosses in the game. Also the first area has lots of asshole Hunter enemies + DUDE A RIVER FULL OF BLOODSUCKING FAGGOTS LMAO so it will be a pain to get to the first lamp.
Also fuck those fishhead giants in the Fishing Hamlet. You'll know them when you get there.

Whoever designed the Upper Cathedral Ward area to have so many Brainsuckers deserves to be shot.
Other than that, it's been really enjoyable. Most of the bosses have taken one or two attempts to kill them, and most involuntary PVP occurrences have been pretty fair.
