How well has the Witcher aged?
I never played it, only a bit of 3.
Kinda bored and it seems I apparently bought it at some point as it's in my steam library.
From what I have seen of people taking about it, the combat is kinda really bad, but how is everything else?
it's jank but still playable. Combat is shit

The game was old when it came out.
The combat is wonky, and things take a while to get going.
Worth a playthrough.
>>335980737
>kinda really bad
The combat is pretty standard rpg click-to-hit combat, except you have an element of timing the clicks. Most of the hate is from soulsfags who expect combat to be like that.
It's nothing fancy but it gets the job done. It's not an action game (though the sequels are more so).
you have to understand the first game is a glorified nwn mod and plays the same way. they hacked in a over the shoulder view. this doesn't obviously didn't stop it from being a wonderful game albeit a bit long winded in parts.
>>335980737
In my opinion it's the worst Aurora engine game. Story and setting are interesting though.
>>335981095
If they kept regular NWN combat it would have been better.
1 Is not open world, you have small areas and can move freely but feels quite linear. Also the combat is based on timing, and can get tedious at first. Is also very slow
I detest the investigation parts of chapter 2 so much
>investigate characters for their connection to salamandra and azar javed
>none of them are actually involved with salamandra or tell you anything important about javed
you basically spend most of chapter 2 (the longest chapter in the game, by my playtime) running around for what amounts to nothing

It always has been and always will be hard to get into but once you do get into it, it's one of the best WRPGs ever made.
Good luck getting into it OP, here's a recommended mod list.

One day millennials will stop throwing around this ageing meme
>>335981505
Yes, but that twist at the end of it makes up for it.
>>335981505
It was realistic though.
why do i get a steady 60 fps for the witcher 3 but 2 is a lagfest?

It aged badly when it came out. Only mind-blowing thing about it was opening cinematic at the time, I know a lot of people who dropped Witcher because game didn't live up to its hype.
witcher 1 is janky as fuck but has an atmosphere that's unmatched
>exploring with that soundtrack
>conversations with zoltan and dandelion
>dice poker (2 ruined dice and 3 removed it completely)
>>335982271
Are you lacking reading comprehension?
>>335980737
I'm currently playing it off an on.
Hasn't age all too well.
It was kind of a neat game that tried to facilitate an isometric and standard 3rd person view and fails at both.
You do stuff for people and many have multiple ways to complete them.
It is your standard shot reverse shot dialog type game but good and evil options are not labled.
3 different endings.
Combat is pretty much just a 1 button QTE.
Has this thing where you need to read a book to know how to pick flowers and carve up monsters and that bugs the shit out of me.
Has a robust alchemy system that you don't really need to use all too much.
I got all 3 for $35, told myself I'd go in order, first game is just a shitzillion references to the books so I actually read all of those that have been officially translated.
Dialog is some times just a lot of
>freak freak pleb pleb freak pleb freak freak pleb
Other times you hit a dialog option that could be better described as a cutscene.
I really liked it
It took me 3 tries to get through Kaer Morhan though.

You aren't playing the game correctly then.
It is a solid RPG. What I love about it is you start off really weak or at least feeling weak. You have to think through and plan your encounters and go about them methodically. Then, by the time you have leveled up a bit you feel like a super powered badass. I feel that is how every RPG should feel but I can see where people who prefer a challenge wouldn't like that.
The same is true for the second. game. I am going to start the third after I have finished reading the books.

If you want an RPG that evokes that feeling perfectly (and evokes it much better than the witcher), play Gothic 1 and 2.
>>335983882
Gothic 2 was such a good game.
>>335983882
>>335984859
What makes Gothic 1 & 2 good?
Genuine question. I've seen them brought up from time to time, but I've never really looked into them.
>>335983882
Fuck Gothic 1.
5 minutes dodging and hitting the liar nigga just for him to 2 shot me
Fuck I hate how weak you are at the start.
>>335985551
This video describes why I like Gothic pretty well

You just gotta git gud. You can kill trolls at level 1.
the combat is the best of all three games
story takes a bit to take off, but becomes worth it
>>335981095
>>335981143
>finished witcher 1 four times, love it to death
>can't play nwn 1 & 2 for more than 30 minutes before getting bored out of my mind
>>335986562
Are you playing the OCs? They're really mediocre. Move to the expansions and modules. NWN is more of a platform than a game.
>>335986740
>playing expansions and modules before playing the main game
nah dude
>>335980737
keep it in one thread
>>335968312
>>335986817
The expansions are separate and self-contained. You know very little about NWN
>>335982060
Turn off 'Ubersampling' in the launcher
It's not meant for this world.

We're talking about TW1 friend
also posting "the ass that puts others to shame"
>>335986532
How long would you say it takes? Because I'm at the beginning of Chapter 3 and I still don't feel like the story has taken off yet.
>>335987369
It's weird how a lot of those cards look nothing like the NPCs in-game.
>>335980737
They age really slowly. A normal witcher could live as long as 200 years and most of them died in a battle.
>>335981505
Plus, the detective you're working with wears a ridiculous outfit.
>>335991817
His high collars are bonafide swag, though.
Does anyone else get a bug in Witcher 1 where you're in dialogue with a dwarf and his beard starts flapping up and down? It happens to Geralt's hair, too, but that's nowhere near as distracting as it is with those enormous beards.
