Tired of this. I've played this game hundreds of hours, and enjoyed it, but it is not a fantastic game. It's a decent game with some great strong points, which is bogged down by the fact that it's a half-assed cash grab where they tried to shove as much content in as possible without fixing anything.
The game is shit even by normal action-game standards.
Enemies are consistently cheap in their tactics due to shoddy A.I.
Tracking is on fucking everything to the point that overhead swings are capable of spinning an enemy almost 180 degrees in some cases.
A few enemies have moves that require a reflex dodge and a move that punishes reflex dodges.
Numerous enemies have infinite poise and stamina to the point of absurdity, with some of them being able to take more hits than bosses, and still remain unflinching.
NG+ adds little besides red phantom spam everywhere.
Then they released SotFS and sold this same shit for another $60, fixing barely any of these problems. Mimics can still randomly eat you from behind them, Pursuer's thrust will catch you at 75 degree angles from it, etc.
DS2, regardless of version, isn't a fantastic game. It's a decent game at best.

The bosses are especially my fetish in these games.
DaS2 was disappointing to me personally but I don't hate it. I can get people liking it if they're really into PvP and Co-op though. I dabble in that stuff but it's not what makes the game for me.

Oh, please. Mechanically, DaSIII fixes what DaSII changed. But from a design standpoint, it's full of just as much as if not more bullshit than 2. The last areas in the game, and the optional areas almost in their entirety, are chock-full of DaSII-syndrome. The enemies, the ambushes, the level design. Untended Graves is a fucking copy/paste, for god's sake. It's not even a creative copy/paste like the Giant Memories; at least those had different shit happening.
I like DaSIII, and I like DaSII--but they're plagued with bad decisions, because From doesn't understand why Dark Souls was so successful, and keep trying to stumble into success again. Bloodborne was so good because it was cohesive, and it wasn't a sequel. Dark Souls is good for exactly those reasons as well. But DaSII and III both suffer from being sequels, in almost the exact same ways.

Playing it post-patch made the experience relatively more bearable, but the only boss I remember was Fume Knight, and the only area I remember was the Iron Keep.
Level design isn't good, enemies and NPC's aren't memorable, and throughout both of my playthroughs, pre-patch and post-patch, it felt more like a chore and less like I was having fun with a Souls game.
The only real compliment I can give it is that, compared to DaS1 on PC, it didn't play like dogshit.
In my opinion most criticisms I have heard for DSII and III are just nitpicking. It's like people expect the sequel to play the exact same as the original and do nothing new at all. Oh and also the shitty hitboxes and tracking are nitpicky in my opinion too because people blow them out of proportion.
